IP ping AKA presence detection on Homey?

Considering getting a Homey device.

But before I do I need to know if it is easy and possible to set up a script(?) that pings local network devices and uses the retrieved status as a boolean.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated!

I’ve tried googling, but most discussions regarding this is many years old and, I suspect, outdated.

Not exactly cli ping, but it checks for online devices with fixed IP’s. So it pings
Very very easy imho.
F.I. give all your devices you want to ping a “family member name”, like printer, or tv, and get logs or notifications of your devices being online or offline while they can trigger flows individually

unfortunatly it doesnt work for pc’s. at least not on my network. i would need ping :-/

Hmm…
I’d suggest to try the Net Scan app
It has both an IP and IP + port scanner device.
It checks fine on my pc, nas, router, thermostat gw, home assistant vm, it also can poll internet sites to check (Homey’s) internet availability.

Sometimes using the IP scan device doesn’t work (meaning: it shows offline right away after configuring),
in that case I add a IP+port scan device, like 80, and it detects the target.
(Of course you should know, or scan which port is always open).
