I have installed quite a few Inovelli White switches in my home. I have added them to Apple Home, and from there to Homey. I then use Homey to write advanced flows to control the smart lights attached to them. The problem I’m running into is that Homey keeps loosing connections to the Switches. I have zero problems with any of my other Matter/Thread devices that I have added in the same way (I have about two dozen SmartWings blinds, almost as many Aqara bulbs running in Thread mode, plus some other random thread/matter devices).
I have some White switches that are clearly defective (pulling the AirGap does not turn off the power to the Switch, just the load), and these are probably the worst offenders, but I have the same problem with fully working ones. Sometimes it’s the result of a power outage. Sometimes, it just happens randomly.
Whenever I try to “fix” the problem it tells me the device is already paired. Which leaves me having to delete and re-add the device, and then reconfigure each and every automation attached to the device. This is a royal pain. (Feature Request: Have flows repair themselves if a new device has the exact same name as the one in the script. Or at least prompt me to confirm they are the same.)
At least for the switches not connected to Smart Bulbs, the Switch still works as a switch when this happens, for the others, it makes the local switch unusable and I’m back to controlling the lights directly through either Homey or Apple Home. Needless to say my wife wants things to just work.
I have a separate but similar problem forcing me to occasionally reboot my Homey Pro to keep automations with the switches running (ie, same scenario, except the switch is still visible in Homey, just the automations stop working). I have to do this maybe once every week or two.
Seems like the only problems I am regularly encountering with Homey is with the Inovelli White’s. So I’m not blaming Homey. Maybe pairing them to Apple Home first is the problem, but at least I have that to make the constant repairing less painful.
I’ve stopped installing the switches for now waiting until I figure out why they are causing me so much pain. And I’m considering switching to the Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 even though it doesn’t have as many features (and I’ve spent a fortune on all the White switches). This project has really put a dent in the Wife’s approval of my Smart Home work.
Any help/ideas/suggestions/etc. are much appreciated.
A couple other pieces of information: All the White’s have the same firmware version (1.0.5). And not all of the White’s I’ve installed have had problems, some have just worked perfectly. Seems like the ones with the Smart Light capability turned on are the ones I’m having trouble with (other than one not smart bulb enabled that simply died).
