Improved Matter Support - Homey Pro v12.7.0 is now available

Matter

  • Adds support for migrating Matter devices when a new cluster is added.

  • Adds support for setting the duration parameter on dim level, color and color temperature Flow cards.

  • Adds support for color looping of lights (when the device supports this).

  • Adds support for configuring the on/off transition time.

  • Adds support for configuring the on/off state after a device has lost power.

  • Adds support for configuring a temperature offset for thermostats.

  • Adds support for configuring delays for occupancy sensors.

  • Adds more flow cards for buttons and switches (when the device supports this).

  • Adds support for devices that use the same cluster multiple times.

  • Adds support for door fault errors of locks.

  • Adds support for inverting the motor direction of blinds.

  • Adds support for repairing Matter devices.

  • Adds support for Matter developer tools.

  • Adds correct device class for smoke alarms.

  • Adds support for simultaneous up/down/stop and exact positioning controls for window coverings.

What the hell does all of this mean and why don’t the Homey team communicate these new features in any meaningful way to the community?

It’s really frustrating and a huge missed opportunity to gain new customers.

”Adds support for configuring the on/off transition time.”

The above sounds like an amazing new feature, but I have no idea how this change works in practice. Is this through flow cards or logic?

    Anyone else feel like this?

Why?
probably more then ~90% of the Homey Users didn’t mis it, and ~ 98 % didn’t want to beta-test. They just wait until it is general available.

All updates where in the alpha releases since weeks and and in the Experimental since v12.7.0-rc.2 and v12.7.0-rc.5 since beginning of September.

These are released now and probably communicated within a week or so after a staged rollout to all subscribed to Homey’s newsletters.

That’s how it usually works, first get it ready and second communicate when it is general available.

If you think you should have know before you probably where not in the audience they selected as (beta)-testers and in the correct slack channels.

I have only seen a few questions on slack from the developers and users that tested the experimental firmware.

What are you going on about?

I’m asking what do all of these features MEAN and HOW can we make use of them as users.
It’s quite a common tradition that most other companies either put out official documentation or they work with influencers or ambassadors to create content to EXPLAIN use cases to consumers.

A long list of supposed ‘Adds support for’ with no other context.

I haven’t said a word about beta testing and I haven’t complained about when these updates are pushed to users and/or developers and/or beta testers.

you need a Matter connected Light, if it has a option for a “transition time” after this update to Homey Pro also can support this. Maybe you need to re-pair the device, it could be depending on the brand.

Pls wait until Athom communicates it also in a newsletter / blog. usually here: https://homey.app/en-us/news/ and 1 day later in a email update.

But feel free to check your Matter devices for new capabilities and functions, if they have native support for it you can be surprised it appears in the Device or in new Flow cards.

Every. Single. One. Of. My. Thread. Matter. Bulbs. Are. OFFLINE!!!

Two months ago, I successfully set up my Nanoleaf A19 and B30 Matter Thread bulbs, and they were functioning perfectly. However, after an update at 3:00 AM Pacific Time this morning, all of my devices stopped working entirely.

Dijker I’ve spent over two hours troubleshooting without success, including restarting my Homey Pro hub and resetting my entire network. I’m frustrated because every Matter update seems to disrupt my devices, despite Matter’s promise of seamless compatibility and self-repairing functionality.

Affected devices:

  • Nanoleaf A19 Matter Thread Bulb

  • Nanoleaf B30 Matter Thread Bulb

Went to go check about Matter in the Homey app and get this error about “Error verifying Thread credentrials: 44000: PERMISSION_DENIED”. My Matter network is ONLY on my Homey Pro.

Thank you for your post to the Homey Community, but it seems that you may need to report this issue to Athom support.

Please, first have a look at [Tip] Problems with Homey?

When you need direct support from Athom please visit Homey Support for our new help center.

If you need help you can read more about how to submit a support request.

@VipeNess no need to tag me, I am not an Athom developer. @VipeNess tagging people here is annoying, you ask the community or just wait. Sentences. Do. Not. Need. Dots. As. Separators.

All of this functions are quite detailed, and most likely only understandable when you have such a device working and are aware of the functions of the device and involved in discussions on missing or non-working functions. If not, you will starting using this functions unnoticed when you introduce a new device in your home .

This morning everything was fine until homey gone offline. I didn’t touch it for approx 10min and then impossible to turn it ON, i have red blinking LED. So I try to update firmware manually.
Maybe i powered it OFF too soon and it was updating firmware, or the update made my homey crash.
After manual update firmware it seems to be working normally

Improved Matter Support

Homey Pro v12.7.0 is now available.

A new firmware update for Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini brings improved Matter support, with refinements for lighting, thermostats, blinds, locks, and more. It also adds new Flow cards for buttons and switches, along with fixes to keep your smart home running smoothly.

Update to v12.7.0 to benefit from these improvements. In the Homey app, just go to More (…) → Settings → Updates to check your version.

But to explain it more, I fully agree to the explanation of Rmb

Did you have a specific feature you didn’t understand and couldn’t find after updating the Homey Pro and Mobile App to the latest stable version?

This doesn’t say anything :joy:

It’s a newsletter linking to the changelog page which I have already quoted at the top of the page

No explanation of how this all works and how I can leverage the new features.

Like I said, there is no context here. It’s lazy.

My perfect working flows are destroyed and give very strange, different and not logical behaviour

To address your concern regarding my message about not understanding that you were an employee of the company, let me explain how I reached that conclusion. Your Gravatar displays the Homey company logo, and the shield icon next to your screen name could suggest to users on this community forum, hosted on a company domain controlled by Homey, that you are an official Homey employee. This could cause confusion for customers, like myself, who visit the forum seeking assistance or sharing information, as they may assume you represent the company in an official capacity. To prevent such misunderstandings, maybe adding a thread signature or profile note clearly stating that you are not affiliated with Homey; something that I’ve seen on other forums like Hubitat and many others.

As noted in my initial post, I expressed my frustration then I had tagged you, as I would on any typical forum, community, social media, or professional work environment, in hopes of receiving guidance, as I would with any support service. Keep in mind that navigating the forum and help sections has been challenging in the past and still is. Despite my efforts to find answers independently, I’ve struggled to locate the information I needed, which led me to this thread, and everything from that point is history.

After some time, I did reach out to support following an exhaustive search through these forums and online resources. My frustration stems from the time and effort spent trying to investigate, research, and resolve the issue.

As for the support ticket, as mentioned, I had already opened one and have referred directly to this thread for further investigation by the official Homey team.

IMHO you’re the only lazy one. You want an in-depth explanation of every new software feature and bug fix? Good luck, that’s not how software development works. Never has. I am in no way an expert, but I understand every line of the changelog. It’s clear and concise.

Also, know you smarthome or don’t. That’s up to you. No one has the time or money to write a guide for all quadrillion integrations. Do your own research. Don’t be lazy and think for 250 bucks you get hardware and software, including updates, plus a “for dummies”-book for every changelog.

Reminder: You asked for other people’s opinions.

“You want an in-depth explanation of every new software feature and bug fix?”

That’s not what I’m saying at all, but thanks for sharing your condescending opinion.

This is a pretty extensive update with a lot of new functionality being added for (some) Matter devices and it was enough to warrant sending out a user wide newsletter, but was accompanied with no other documentation or content.

  • Adds support for configuring the on/off transition time.

  • Adds support for configuring the on/off state after a device has lost power.

No mention of device types in these two lines, but in other lines there are clear device types. Does this affect lights, plugs etc???
I own around 20 different matter device types and I have checked all of them and I am still none the wiser on where and how I should be looking. Can this be found in flow cards or using logic etc?

I’m asking for the most basic bit of context and the rest I can work out for myself, as I have already watched the pretty extensive Homey for dummies video tutorials elsewhere.

You reap what you sow. Just re-read your answers to some help suggestions above.

To the rest of your post: How should Homey know which devices support these features? Matter support of different brands is a mess. You do know now they support the feature if your device supports it. Keeping track of every change (software updates, etc) for every hardware sold would require several full-time employees and is simply not feasible. I’m down for giving Athom shit in many other areas, but not here.

I’d check in device settings to configure those specific two. Since I don’t have any native matter lights, I can’t double check but flows / logic doesn’t make sense as its a per-device setting (how long should the lamp transition every time? What is the default fall-back after losing power?). Just one device type would only make sense for transition time (lamps) as on/off state could be useful for plugs as well. You could check the Matter specs as to which device types support this feature (see https://csa-iot.org/developer-resource/specifications-download-request/ → down right so I can’t check for you).

See, if you ask specific questions and don’t just rant, you can get help.

In the end the HP23 was “destroyed” by the firmware update.

After several attempts and trying different steps, it is up and running and working as it should

“Adds support for configuring the on/off transition time.”

I have 25 Matter devices.
Not a single one can do this.

Like I said, what’s the point of these updates without context?
