Ikea matter sensors periodically drop out

I’ve had many issues with Thread in the past, but everything is stable and has been for a few months now. I have Myggspray, Myggbett, Kajplats and Timmerflotte installed right now.

Can you let me know the following info…

  1. How many powered Thread (Router) devices are in your setup?
  2. What Homey device do you have with a Thread radio? Pro 2023, 2026, mini etc?
  3. What kind of home network do you have? Unifi, Aruba, TPLink, GLiNet or another mesh?
  4. Do you have any VLANs on your home network?
  5. Do you have any firewall?
  6. Is IPv6 turned on, on your router?
  7. Do you have any Zigbee devices connected to Homey, which are exposed directly to Homey without going through another hub?
  8. Where is Homey located in your house? Is it sitting right next to your router?
  9. Does Homey connect to your home network over LAN or Wifi?
  10. You say “not on any other platform”. Are you sure there’s only one Thread network in your home?

Thank you so much for the help!

Okay so, point per point:

  1. 6 total: 3 lightbulbs, 2 powersockets, and one donut wall light, the one from ikea, all matter over thread.
  2. I am using a Raspberry Pi with a SHS of Homey, using the Dirigera as a thread border router.
  3. My home network is still ISP bound, it’s a local Portuguese ISP, MEO, one router in the living room and an extender access point in my bedroom.
  4. No VLANs at all
  5. Turned off both my regular and my IPV6 firewalls on my IPS’s router.
  6. Sure is, but weirdly it isn’t giving my raspberry pi an IPV6 IP/MAC
  7. None, since they’re all having to go through dirigera, since SHS doesn’t support the USB zigbee antena I have connected.
  8. Homey is located on my living room, right next to where one of the sensors is, in the entrance, next to the living room arch. Directly next to my router, and to dirigera, and both are connected via ethernet to the router.
  9. LAN
  10. That’s a great question! How do I figure that out? I’m a newbie to all this tbh

Thank you once again for the willingness to help, I am losing my mind, as ONLY battery powered sensors from IKEA aren’t working.

So you’ve disabled the firewall entirely (also from WAN)? That’s incredibly risky, I would recommend enabling it again immediately. With firewall fully disabled, anyone on the internet can access your network from anywhere.

Yeah dw, it’s back on haha.

Had it off for a hot minute to check if it impacted anything, but nah.

You shouldn’t put hubs with a Thread radio, right next to your ISP router.
Minimum of two metres away or you could end up with a lot of interference.

I’d look into IPv6 to be honest, it’s one of the main gripes for a Thread mesh.
Also give the below article a read and see if there are any easy wins for you

Are you using the same subnet for IOT and all of your other devices?
phones, laptops, tablets, TVs etc.

Also just to add, but what currently works for me

Rack in my loft with a patch bay and a couple of switches, one POE for cameras.
ISP Router (EE in the UK) is up there, but the wireless radios are turned off.

I have a GLiNET Flint 2 which stays in the loft and the 5GHz band is turned off.
This is on it’s own subnet and all my IOT devices go through this

I then have a small 10inch rack in a cupboard on the 1st floor, which has another gigabit switch.
Homey Pro (2023) and a Phillips Hue Bridge Pro are located in this rack. This means they’re on a separate floor to the Flint2 router, keeping a good distance of 3-4 metres.

All Thread or WIFI devices are connected to Homey or the Flint2 and then any Zigbee devices go through the Hue Bridge.

I then have a completely separate Aruba AP25 access point downstairs (on a different subnet) which my personal devices are connected to and the 2.4GHz band is turned off, so I reduce the interference where possible. This is on a different subnet to the Flint2 and anything IOT.

Zero issues with Thread using this setup and I have about 60 Matter devices, around 55 are Thread and 5 are Wifi. Probably around 15 Zigbee devices, mainly Hue products on top of that.
They also work flawlessly.

I own a period property in London with really thick brick walls on all floors, so my setup is maybe a bit overkill, but that’s what works when you don’t have cavity walls.

I plan on going full Thread in a few months, once Wago release their upcoming Thread relays. Wifi relays are a pain in the ass if you have to turn Homey off for an extended time for DIY or electrical work, they just don’t self heal like Thread or Zigbee.

It depends on which WiFi devices you have. I have many WiFi devices including Tuya, Tapo, Kasa, WiZ, etc. and all devices auto-reconnect to my network once the AP is powered up again.

I’ve had all of the above and all would disconnect after outages

Tuya especially.

I have the same issue’s. For me the thread bulbs are awsome and have zero issue’s.

The mygbet motion sensors and door sensors are also fine after updates.

For me it is the bilsera buttons that always go offline after 2 to 3 days. Restarting the button after a few minutes it should come online again.

I have a single thread network with eneugh bulbs everywhere. I have added the dirigera to the same thread network for updates of the firmwares. There they also go offline.

I have a homey pro 2023
