Homey Pro crashing to red LED ring when making a backup

Can’t open the slack links

Athoms feedback to my current ticket:

"We are currently testing a version that fixes this problem of the backup crashes.
When it is released it will be implemented through the automatic update of the software.

This will not take weeks, only the time when it will be released is not yet known, as it is still being tested"

Hopefully the testing will be sucsessfull in the next weeks.
To solve this problem I have transfered some systems to home assistant, delete the apps and get some more free memory space.
Import the values via home assistant community interface back

I have send my backup and diagnostics file to Athom for testing.
For now I have disabled the automatic backup which prevented the red ring for now.

Manually triggering a backup will give me the red ring, but after a PTP I can do a successful backup, so for the time being this will be my daily tasks

I am confident we will receive the update soon and we can all go back to normal

Here you go

May I ask what program you use in the Pi and how your setup is?
Thanks!

However, recent updates to Unifi Network Controller seems to have broken something and the script is not able to restart the PoE port anymore.

It seems latest firmware 12.3.3 solved this problem but unfortunately not for me.
Does anyone else still have this problem?

Also having this auto backup issue with crash (between 01:30-03:00) it would seem and on one occasion during interactive backup. Raised case during the week, but no response from support. I am glad I found this post.

I am running the latest 12.3.3 and as of today disabling auto-backups.

I am running quite a few applications and disabled a bunch last night but also enabled Audit app which is pretty heavy. Looking to join Slack discussion and posted update.

I ruled out faulty hardware by using a new Homey and restoring it with a backup from the original one. Same problem.
I think it’s a memory issue and happens after Homey is running a certain amount of time.
Support has raised the issue with the development team so far now a workaround is to make a flow to restart Homey just after midnight because the auto backup is usually around 1 am.

12.4.1 has finally resolved issue for me with several consecutive successes with automated backups. Homey Support followed up as well.

I’m having this same behavior now for several weeks, red ring and need to power off/on the device. Basically doing this every night, the time is not really fixed as far as i can see but somewhere around 00:00. I’m thinking to disable backup for a couple of days to see that cause it. (Version 12.9.0-rc.9)

Someone else maybe have the same problem, but of course more interesting will be a solution

Update: i have seen that there was een new 12.9.0-rc.10 version, but red ring after install, so maybe that’s the problem. I have now disabled “experimental update” and wait and see.

You can revert to the stable firmware pretty easy (from v12.9.0-rc.x to v12.8.2 in your case)

Since 12.8.0 my Homey Pro 23 has been restarting by itself two, three even four times a day. Good thing is that it does restart, but this is odd behaviour and would expect better stability.

Thanks for this info, I’ll do that and hope this will solve the problem

Update: After restoring to the stable version my Homey Pro has worked for two days already in a row, so I’m very happy with this solution.

I ran into this issue this week as well. Automated backup crashes Homey each night.

So for now I created a workaround flow to shut down 5 or 6 apps that can be switched off for a while (and to start them offcourse  ) to free up memory.

Freeing op free memory to above 400 MB worked and allowed to make the back-up. I did not investigate it too extensively but during the backup in the overview Memory Usage an app “Other” appears, using around 350MB. I assume this is the backup.

I looked around a bit, but I don’t see a possibility to start a backup with a flow. Or did I miss something here?

Odd, here “Other” is always present (but it’s a Pro 2019)

AFAIK there is no such thing regarding the cloud backup
