Homey Energy | Megathread

Hello,
Thank you very much for this new feature! It’s available on Home Assistant, and I was envious of it.
I have a few remarks (and sorry if these questions have already been asked):
1- I have a Shelly 3EM energy meter that monitors three things:

  • The input from my electricity meter (from network): this is my total consumption, and the value can be negative if my solar panels feed in more than my consumption.
  • The consumption of my heat pump.
  • The consumption of my cooktop and my oven.
The problem with the Energy tab is that we cannot indicate which measurement corresponds to the total (electric meter) and which measurements are devices in the house. I ended up with my consumption graph summing my electric meter (total consumption) and my heat pump. Since the latter represents almost all the consumption, the graph showed me a consumption double that of reality.

2- I would like to be able to assign calculated variables to the consumption of a device. For example, I have a NODON module on my towel dryers, but it is not fully compatible with Homey. As a result, it only returns a consumption in kWh that constantly increases over time and not an instantaneous consumption in Watts. So I created a variable to get this consumption in Watts, and I would like it to be taken into account in the Energy tab.

3- The image at the top of the tab could be customizable:

  • Display solar panels if we have them.
  • Display a heat pump if we have one and we are monitoring its consumption.
  • The same for people who have a pool with dedicated consumption for it.
  • etc…

Thank you in advance for your responses

Devices that do not measure kWh consumption themselves will not show up in top consumers unfortunately (also mentioned here: https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/17382300255772-Testing-the-Homey-Energy-beta).

These devices seem to report invalid values to Homey, unfortunately not much Homey can do about that.

The price shown above the Electricity Total graph represents the cost of imported electricity. It doesn’t reflect exported prices, as regulations for selling energy back to the grid vary by region. (https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/17382300255772-Testing-the-Homey-Energy-beta)

@RonnyW “Home batteries should have the measure_power capability. This represents the real-time energy consumption of the home battery in Watts. Provide positive values to indicate the battery is consuming energy (charging), provide negative values to indicate the battery is delivering energy back to the home (discharging).”

This is how it is currently defined in the SDK docs (Energy | Homey Apps SDK)

But i can’t find those values in the insights, not as current value or daily value. What value is presented on the energy widget and where should i be able to find that corresponding value within the device insight/capability?

Hi Robin,

Thanks, I know that. But what’s the use of an approximate energie setting when it’s not used to accumulate towards a daily usage?

The mentioned e.g., through the “Power usage when off”/" Power usage when on" or “Constant power usage” combined with on-off can easily be used for daily usage.

It would just require an Infotip to explain the user that the value is only reliable for devices that have a constant power usage or a reliable average.

Thanks. I was not sure because HA uses the reverse value.
But the Homey way is more intuitive because while charging it’s a consumer as you said

No change in homet so I removed both batteries and re-added them with the beta app installee.

I see no change in the energy tab….

Maybe it takes some time to populate ?

@Robin just as idea…
If the house battery device has a measure_battery, it would be nice to see the SoC in the graphic.

Not with such a highlight color, but perhaps with a dark/light gray.

I let the batteries charge up and then release their charge again, the energy tab shows the correct power use but nothing on the batteries…

So I understand there is no option to connect the energy dongle with ethernet, only WIFI?

Why is that? I would prefer ethernet over Wifi. It would seem logical to me since probably a lot energymeters are in the same place as the router of the ISP.

And any news if delivery still stands for March?

i already have a dongle connected to homey (another brand) and have the data directly from the house power meter available in homey interface.

Any way to get it into the energy interface as a master, and then deduct all other available data from the total from the meter?

Hello!

Anyone who can help me understand why my Solar panels and Home is just showing ”-”?

I have a Tibber Pulse P1 for energy tracking and Sigenergy solar + Battery using the ”SolarEdge + Growatt TCP Modbus” app.

Both devices are fully capable to show current production and consumption on the device pages, but just not in the Energy tab?

The app developers should have received info about adjustments which should be made to the app code.

You could inform with the app developers if they happen to have had the opportunity to update the app with the new information.

Actually, this has already been solved by the BeeClear app developer @Gruijter :grinning:.

Communication went via the dedicated BeeClear topic. It was also added to the list of supported energy meters.

same answer , you don’t have meter_power on Sigenergy

Oh sorry @Edwin_Biemond, I didn’t see that you replied in the other thread.

I assumed something was wrong with my Homey since Tibber wasn’t showing my house consumption either, and I saw others here having values from Tibber…

no worry, can you ask sigenergy why they don’t have it? it is a very basic thing
Saw on HA they try to calculate it based on measure_power, very unreliable.

I would like to see, if its possible to integrate a Solax inverter this way. I can read all live data, but i would more like to have this kind of dashboard in homeym

Anyone know if it is the intention to add batteries in a nice way to the energy tab ?

There seems to be one drawn at the wall but it seems like it does nothing eith the data of my sessy batteries… (class is correct)…

Would be nice to see fill grade of battery, and what the battery did during a period (data that is available thru insights)
