Homey 2023 / 2026 unstability

Hi,

looking for someone having since Dezember (+/-) regular/random un-expected Homey reboots and on https://tools.developer.homey.app/tools/system :

rebootReason “unexpected”

in combination with no undervoltage problems :

I’m trying to narrow down the cause, if I will find someone like me….seems not to be widespread but it would be not 1st time I’m among the first of such impacted users.

Based on my analysis, homey-pro container dies and forces OS self-reboot as recovery, showing RED ring animation shortly.

Uptime stats for past 14 days shows how random it is…

I suspect SW related problem as it appeared on new HP2026 as well.

Also if anyone is observing the same, I’m interested on knowing if you use Homey Bridge as satellite.

Maybe one of the installed apps is causing this issue. You might want to disable all apps and then enable them one at at time with a long enough wait period in between.

Stock Pro 2026 (SE) v12.10.0, no bridge.

The other day I encountered the first (noticed) “Unexpected” reboot. But one time isn’t a pattern yet.
It happened right after cancelling an add a new device action (app: Trust Smart Home a.k.a. KaKu);
I’m unsure if it’s related at all, but it seemed very related. I mean I tapped the screen’s X, and within a few seconds the white led started rotating;

Other models:
I can’t recall if my Pro 2019 rebooted / crashed out of the blue (since 2020).

Is Homey (too) busy?
It has no zigbee & z-wave networks to manage.
It’s workload is the same as my Pro 2019 had for years.

(Note: I’m one of those who believes one shouldn’t reboot devices for no reason, in general my Homeys only reboot after a manual firmware update).

Could be, but any of the app shall not be causing such instability, it would be fundamental problem is apps can crash the main container. More over, I have checked all the apps, none of them shows any misbehavior, eg. CPU nor MEM peaks.

Interesting, it also started with one restart for me…. so could be your first. Let’s see…thanks for sharing.

I use a critical notification card in case Homey and apps are finished starting, in theory it can’t go unnoticed

I have a somewhat similar experience. Having never previously seen an unexpected reboot in many years of using Homey, I had 2 in the past 10 days. So not quite as unstable as yours (yet!). I was scratching my head about it because I too have no apps with unusual memory or CPU usage, nothing obviously changed in the set up in that period and no under voltage or any other issues in dev. tools or sys internals.

The only thing I found which correlated with the reboots was CPU temperature, which rises by a few degrees after each reboot for a period then drops again. But my leading theory for this is it’s the red ring. My Homey (Pro 2023, modded with a new CM4 a few weeks before this and otherwise showing normal CPU temp since) lives in an equipment cupboard with the LED ring switched off, so if it’s showing the red ring after unexpected reboots for a period then switching off, that would likely explain the temp chart. Both reboots happened overnight so I’ve not been able to catch it in the act yet to check.

I do also use a Homey Bridge in Satellite mode. Is there anything in particular pointing you towards that as a potential cause @Sharkys ? I’ve been using it for months before this with no issues so unless Bridge firmware has been updated recently then seems less likely to me.

Thanks for your inputs. My theory is that CPU Temp. spikes are related to the system booting up, so it’s running for some time on 100% loading all apps etc.

Well two points - I keep hammering Athom in nice way asking “is there anyone else like me” and so far it seems it’s not wide-spread, so could be configuration specific or people might be even not aware, as the reboot would need to be monitored, eg. like Peter did it (I’m using MONIT on my NAS to monitor Homey…).
Also I have seen in the past Bridge crashing upon receiving too big BLE packet from one specific device (oversimplified version) but that has been addressed several months ago… yet, probably shutting down of the Satelitte will be my next action but now I went over also to new CM4 with 8GB RAM, so would like to see any impact.

Yes I also thought the temp spikes might be initial load after reboot but the temp spikes last much longer than that and end quite abruptly quite a while after the reboot was completed. See additional CPU 1 min load chart below. No obvious correlation there to my eye. So I still think the LED ring seems most likely explanation for that.

Also, my Homey Bridge is used for exactly one use case which is IR commands to a single device. So I have no Zigbee, Z Wave, 433 or BLE devices attached to it.

I had the same problem in December on my 2023. I receive a notification after restart on my mobile and a message on the timeline. The led ring showed shortly a red light and then Homey restarted. Happened every few days since a certain firmware update. (I do not know which version).

After replacing the CM module with 8GB version late December it never occurred again. My memory usage is 2.6 GB.

Which firmware are you on now @Jan_Albert ? I’m currently on 12.10.1 (latest stable)

Same

Hmm, interesting. In general 4GB RAM was fine, but I had to reboot every 3-4 days or so… but since Dezember 2025 actually the random reboots starts occurring without any issue apparent from the memory utilization point of view (was simply the same like past 3 years)

You are welcome to try the experimental firmware v12.11.0-rc.3. It is very stable and runs on early26 and early23 for me. It can’t get any worse.

Interesting Insight Chart, how can I get these CPU en Uptime values?

Install sysInternals | Homey

Although interesting, I don’t know if it’s worth installing an extra ‘unnecessary’ app but thanks!

If it helps, it uses <0.2% CPU and ~45MB RAM

Dito. I’m curious if it’ll make a difference, Uwe!

Very different here
