Getting started, what first?

Hello,

I just received my Homey Pro and bridge, which I plan to install as a satellite. I would like to know what I should do first. I went sort of crazy buying all the sensors, smart buttons, and lights that I thought I might need. I bought everything following the guides here, and my question is: for a smother sailing, should I install all the devices first with their particular app and then the Homey system afterward, or should I install the Homey Pro and register each device one by one with Homey and then install the devices and use their apps only if needed for operation? I even got rid of my old Alexa account because it was set up for an older house I lived in, and it was kind of a mess to retrofit to my new apartment. Thanks for any help you may provide…

Set up the Homey Pro, configure it and check if it has any SW upgrade waiting.
When this is finished you add your devices one by one.
Always start with non-battery devices as they will become routers for other devices.
When adding the device you should put it at the location it should be in the end, this to learn the correct route.
Every device needs a Homey-app (a driver) to be installed from Appar för Homey Pro. E.g. if you want to install a Fibaro device you need to find the Fibaro app for this device.

Most likely you do not need an app in your mobile.

Hey, thanks a lot, that is very helpful, will do…!

Watch out: some kind of protocols do not support installing the devices on more than 1 controller. Zigbee-devices for example can only be controlled by 1 controller. Adding them to another controller means losing connection with the first controller.

Can you explain what I must watch out for or be careful with? When you say controller, what exactly do you mean? Is it the app I use to access the particular device…what do you recommend? Or what do you do to avoid that situation?

Homey is a “Controller”. Then you have others like Home Assistant Aqara hub etc.
But as long as you only have the Homey you don’t have to worry.

thanks!
