I recently replaced the (homewizard) kwh-meter that was measuring my EV Charger power consumption. I’ve noticed the device is always drawing 3.7w now. I can assume this is simply the standby usage of the EV charger, fine.
I didn’t have this before though. Maybe my previous kWh was less sensitive?
However, the main thing here (i think) is Homey. Homey counts the 3.7w in the EV charger as actual charging. There’s a blue line ‘crawling’ to the garage and the status is literally “3.7 W - Charging”. Isn’t/shouldn’t be there some kind of threshold?
With the solarpanels (almost) the same story. At night, it shows -6 wat constantly. Again, probably the standby power draw of the gateway/inverters, but why show it here?
And what’s weird is that I didn’t have this with my old kwh-meters. They showed the solarpanels at 0 watt at night and the EV charger ‘idle’ as long as the car wasn’t connected and actually charging.
I can’t be the only one with these ‘accurate’ kwh meters. How are you guys dealing with this (if at all)?
Homey Energy tab is very basic. App devs have to make adjustments to their apps to make it appear (correctly) in Homey Energy. It should be the orher way round > users decide what and how stuff is added.
Well, yes, but that would still require a little bit of work from either party.
In my case I’m using homewizard kwh-meters. They don’t have some kind of threshold setting that prevents them from reporting (in this case unwanted) standby-usage and/or negative values. For this specific use case --reporting on a solar system or EV charger-- that would be useful.
But you could also argue this is something for Homey to address. They specifically have Solar panels and EV Charger entries on their Energy “dashboard” with the fancy flowing power lines. It would not be weird for them to decide that, for the purpose of that dashboard, to not have standby-powerconsumption mark the EV Charger as being active, and to not show negative power production of the solar panels.
Either way, this is a minor UI issue and it’s not breaking any flows or something. But still.. its annoying me
