In fact it is best to test with 3 nodes only: HP, bridge and one ZigBee device. As a 4 th node and the bridge could both be located at the edge of the network a both could deliver a weak signal to your ZigBee device. In that case you cannot be sure where the device connects to. And still cannot conclude if the bridge acts as a ZigBee router or not. Pity that the routes are not shown.
An network analyser would be nice!
This was how I started.
-
tried to add the device from the carport. The bridge was about 5 meters away between the zigbee controller snd HP. Inclusion didn’t work at all. Tried at least 5 times.
-
I took it inside close to HP. It worked. Put out again, it doesn’t properly work.
-
I place the bridge almost halfway between device and HP.
No change. The signal doesn’t get better.
I restarted the zigbee controller to check if it would connect via the bridge after restart but from what I see, it doesn’t as the signal doesn’t get better. Almost all pings get timed out.
Not sure what else to try.
Thanks for all your thoughts. Also in this term it is a completely different story compared to Fibaro.
Maybe the overall distance is too big.
So what you can do:
- switch off bridge. Put the device close enough to your Homey and verify there is a good connection.
- make the distance a little bigger, until you notice a degraded connection
- switch on the homey in the middle, wait 15 minutes and see if the connection has improved.
I hope the overall distance is enough to cover your garage.
May post your ZigBee network table here, so we can have a look?
By the way your questions
- is Homey Bridge acting as a ZigBee router
- how do I extend my ZigBee network
Are answered, that is, you have enough information how to get things done. So don’t give up. Anyway, using the bridge to expand your ZigBee network is an expensive solution compared by adding a ZigBee wall outlet at the right places. Because the bridge acts just as a ZigBee router, just like the wall outlet. And the wall outlet might/will have a bigger range.
That is a big disappointment, as you probable thought that in satellite mode the ZigBee messages are encapsulated and transported over your Ethernet network, using WiFi and 10Base-5. It does for infrared and 433 MHz, as it allows you to select the IR Led and antenne of the bridge. But for ZigBee and Z-wave, it is just a ZigBee or Z-wave router.
Here is a screenshot of the dev page.
Both are shown to be routers. I’ll try it later with a zigbee wall plug I found in the basement.
At least it was not a complete waste of money as the IR works good and the Bridge seems to help to include Z-Wave devices. It works much faster when the bridge is between HP and the Z-Wave device. Although it doesn’t connect to it from the dev tool page.

Volgens Homey Pro (Early 2023) Changelog | Homey
Zit in 10.1.0 pas de ZigBee router in.
Nou ja, ik merk wel wat er veranderd. Ik hem gelijk installeren.
Fantastic. Since an hour or so Homey goes randomly offline. The LED ring is still in spectrum mode. It available for few minutes and then it goes offline again.
Homey completely unavailable. Tried to restart and after rotating white it turned into breathing red. Then it returned to spectrum but no connection to it.
PS. HP is back. Used the USB-Tool to reinstall the firmware.
PS 2: After unplugging from PC and connecting to its power supply, again red ring breathing and then spectrum but not available.
Maybe it is automatically updating the software?
No. It did the update and sent push notification after finishing. After several restarts it is back again.
The scenes still worked when it was not available in the app. This is weird.
Is it possible that many attempts to connect a device may lead into a crash of homey? At least a partial crash (devices can be controlled but no connection through app)?
Sorry, marked the wrong part. Look at the section below ![]()
When there is a network problem on your LAN/WiFi network, you can not connect with the app on iPad or phone to HP. But the HP can stil work by itself.
After restarting HP the network address might have changed.
Next time you can use the ping command on your computer to see if it can reach your HP. Or look in your WiFi router if Homey is up and which address it has.
I think it is a WiFi issue. I checked the router and the HP was shown as disconnected while the two bridges were connected. I disconnected the HP from the power supply for a minute and after re-connecting it is back again.
I ordered the network adapter. It should solve the WiFi issue in case it is the root of the problem.
After the update something seems to cause a crash of HP. Then a red ring starts breathing. Then it gets back to spectrum and the devices seem to be controllable.
BUT…It seems that after a crash Homey doesn’t try to connect to the internet again.
When it boots correctly, it connects to internet. When something brings homey to crash, it re-boots but without trying to re-connect to the internet.
Just did a test. I removed the internet from my WiFi router, while the app is connected to HP, everything keeps working. Then I close the app, and on opening the app it does not connect to HP. Then I connect the internet again on my router, and the app does connect to HP. It just looks like for logging into HP you need internet to login with your Homey cloud account. As there is no local logon. That looks like your problem. Both the app and HP needs internet, at least to get things started.
PS: after the update, I waited for a long time, the progress bar showed no progress. So I killed the app and restarted the app, and then the app connected to HP. So updating is not flawless
Yes, it is far away from being flawless. That the homey creates crashes after restart is annoying. A restart can happen for many reasons and when you are not close to Homey (vacation or whatever) it stays offline till someone restarts it (possibly again and again).
This unreliability was one of the reasons why I left the Fibaro world.
Owwwwh Yes I see now!
I will bin my post then hehe.
Homey started loosing connection out of sudden.
Toda in
The morning I noticed that ring of the bridges is breathing red.
Homey is offline but spectrum light is on. No
Scene is working.
What hell of an update was that?
Power off at Homey and power on again after 20 seconds brought it back.
Also the bridges now show normal spectrum light ring.
