Am i the only one almost exploding on not being able to dim with homey,
it is so anoying that a simple thing wich works fine with ikea bottons, is not able to do
on homey, it even works on hue, i must say it should be bare minimum to hav a dim funtion and duble press, hold etc. Homey guy’s shame on you
I think Homey will never support this, The Hue app is specifically designed for lighting, they have optimized their app for lighting, and they have many features related to lighting. However, Homey supports multiple types of devices, so it likely won’t be added to Homey (behaviour would be incosistent across device types). This is one of the many reasons to keep the Hue Bridge even when you have Homey, because the Hue app is better for lighting (easy setup of dimmer switches and linking them to lights, easy and quick control of lights, etc.)
I mean i want a button ikea or any other button, when i click it turns light on and off, when i hold it goes ither up or down. normal operation on other systems like ikea Hue, homeassitent etc. i want to use Homey as my bridge , i think it is kind of a scam when homey have to rely on ohther bridges to have standard funcionality. or is it just me..?
Usually it’s way easier to pair a remote with a light of the same brand using their app/instruction instead of using any automation platform to do it.
If you like to do it with Homey you can find an example for a styrbar remote here. If you are using other remote(s) it should give you some idea of how to set it up.
I know that one i like the shortcut button, an the point is i dont want to use 4 buttons to control one light, i only want to use one, so toggle lighr and hold takes light up or down.
Hold button isn’t an event on most “smart” remotes. In that case you should work with timers and steps, there are also some examples for that on this forum, like this one.
The Hue dimmer switch supports the dim on hold feature, but that feature requires the Hue bridge and the lights you want to control must be on the Hue bridge as well (any ZigBee-compatible switch, socket, dimmer or bulb will work with the Hue Bridge, also from other brands).
As long as the remote control keeps sending repeatedly a signal while you hold down the button, it is possible to create a flow so that the brightness gradually increases or decreases.
To do this, you need to use the “Set relative dimming level +/- 10%” flow card. If you can also set a transition duration of 1 second, the transition will be very smooth.
But the only remote controls I know of are the Philips Hue Dimmer Switch remotes.
The IKEA Symfonisk 2 is also capable of sending a signal repeatedly when you hold down the buttons, but this remote is actually intended more for controlling speakers.
But you do need the Hue Bridge to connect it. Or maybe it’s possible with the Hue Zigbee app, I don’t know since I have the dimmers connected to a Hue Bridge
The new IKEA Bilresa matter-connected has an action When Button is long-pressed and released. Have not tried using that option yet but I can’t see why a very simple bit of looping code in a Homey Advanced Flow could not simply be made to step through a dimming sequence. Also the new Bilresa with Scroll wheel could be made to dim. I have already been able to make it step through the light colour options of a group of bulbs
I also use Remotec scene controllers which have four When options - single click, double-click, long press, release. Again simple to write an advanced flow which would effectively do Do-Until
Both classic examples of how to pervert the expected use of a device. Although they were not intended that way I use IKEA Strybar, Rodret and now Bilresa remotes to control all my various brands of bulbs for all functionality - and my venetian blinds too through Switchbot motors - and the volume of my Sonos TV surround sound system!
No it’s not just you, it is as you say a basic expectation and has been the norm in systems like X10 for over 30 years.
I am hoping that when the chaps who integrate Shelly stuff in to Homey complete their latest work that the Shelly BLU RC Button 4 ZB remote will have cards that support up to 4 separate Hue lights with on/off toggle and dim cycle on hold, via Zigbee.
If that proves not to be the case then the term ‘Smart’ wants deleting from this kit.
‘Long press’ can be detected on most buttons, it’s then a case of writing the cyclic routine.
Ok that’s simplified because I couldn’t write it, but that’s why I’ve paid a lot of money for a Homey pro hub.
I’m not sure if I misunderstand OPs issue, but I have lights that I can dim with a button in Homey.
One of them is a LED that is above our kitchen table. It’s a IKEA Trådfri which I control with an IKEA Styrbar and an IKEA Trådfri mini dimmer. The remotes are programmed as follows:
Long press “1” button turns the LED ON and long press “0” button turns the LED OFF.
When short pressing the buttons the lights dim in 10% increments up or down.
@larspalmqvistdk I have “accepted” that there is no easy way to do the gradual dimming with a single continual action. Though I would love for that to be possible.
I am currently using Shelly 1pm relays built into my light switches that have been converted into momentary switches . Short press is turn on/off, long press is 20% increase in dim and double press is 20% decrease in dim.
So if I want to increase dim by 40% I have to make two long presses. It would be preferable to just hold the switch until the correct dim was achieved.
It may be possible to build with an elaborate advanced flow, where you use a timer and a short transition effect… but the ideal situation would be if this was possible out of the box.
If you like a simpel way to dim any ligt try to use the Plejd System and use a Dimmer smart Plug typ spd-01, its easy and you have no problem like ikea problem. The Plejd system have a good funktion on Homey. Mvh. Willard
