Good to hear. Any timeline?
Right now the Danfoss app is pretty much worthless for the Ally thermostats. I would suggest including the Ally Gateway as well similar to how the Philips Hue app works. In this way you also have the benefits of the thermostat and separate sensor working together.
We currently have a considerable number of partners on the waiting list. Since Danfoss is not developing the integration themselves at this stage, weāll need to wait for available bandwidth with our agencies. However, we expect a realistic timeline to be sometime this summer.
Just to let you know, since the latest update the connectivity to the Ally Thermostats has gotten worse. Usually they would stay connected for a couple of weeks, at best but now they lose connection within a day rendering the app to virtually useless
This is really good news. I myself believe in multihub model where there are certain use cases where a dedicated hub does the best job and Homey works as a main controller for everything. Like in this case, Ally Gateway probably is going to be able to best control the heating of a house and the more advanced use cases like having external room sensors to measure the actual room temperature when the radiator is covered behind curtains or furniture. Or hydronic underfloor heating with Icon2.
I already have the Ally Gateway and lām really looking forward to getting that integrated with my Homey Pro. I have kind of been hoping Danfoss would support Matter with Ally Gateway, but Homey connecting through cloud API would be the second best option.
Since the present Danfoss App is very unstable Iāve tried something else.
It seems the Ally Gateway is just a Tuya zigbee hub so I tried to connect it to my Smartlife app and this works! The app finds it and installs it as a gateway so then the subdevices like the thermostats and sensors can be added. In this way also the firmware gets updated.
Then just add the thermostats in Homey through the Tuya Cloud app. Unfortunately the temperature sensors are not recognised this way but they seem quite stable in the Homey Danfoss app so they donāt have be added through Tuya.
Iām not sure if the Ally Gateway takes the sensors in account when added because thereās not really a setting for it and Iām also not familiar how this works in the official Danfoss app.
Anyway the thermostats seem more reliable now, they donāt drop the connection nor change to weird values when triggered by a flow.
I can now confirm that when the Danfoss temperature sensors are added as a subdevice in Smartlife and in the same room as the thermostats, they assume the function as intended and the same as in the official Ally Danfoss app. So thereās really no need to use the Homey Danfoss app anymore because in this way itās more stable and more functionality like firmware updates. Itās even possible to add the sensors but thatās a bit more complicated. But it can be done by listening to the Tuya messages Homey receives and a virtual device but it basically only adds humidity.
Just to clarify: So you removed the connection of your Ally Gateway to the Ally app and you only connected the Ally Gateway to Smartlife app and Tuya cloud? I assume then also current connection to thermostats and sensors are lost and you need to link them again to the Ally Gateway using the Smartlife app?
But does it also do the firmware updates this way for both the thermostats and temp sensors?
Correct! Everything works fine in the Smartlife app including updates.
Iāve been a bit absent in this topic! Still a a lot to do at home and this hasnāt been top priority (still isnāt, sorry about that).
My system is not (always) working as intended. Iāve had moments where the convectors wouldnāt start heating while the thermostat were set to āheatingā. Itās been a while and I canāt remember if the Icon unit received a heating signal or not, but there surely wasnāt any hot water flow in the pipes to the convector. So Iāve got a few things to check, setup and validate to be working before Iām going to burn my fingers on integrating it into another system.
Any updates from your side @Doekse ?
Once again, if you donāt want to wait the Ally works perfectly in the Tuya Cloud app when you add your gateway to Smart Life
Thanks Marcus. I think that will be a great option with TRVās. However I am planning to also have Danfoss Icon2 for underfloor heating. I wonder if Smartlife would work with that as well?
If the app is Tuya based it probably does but canāt be sure of course
I just released a test version of a Danfoss Air app that works on the LAN interface: [APP][Pro] Danfoss Air
Just found out a limitation in this solution. Controllable device pool seems to be 10. If thereās more thermostats, then this again is not an option. Furthermore, Tuya cloud seems to consider some of my Ally Room sensors as controllable, which consumes this quota unnecessarily. So the limit for the amount of thermostats seems to be even lower than 10 in practice.
Another heating season started without Homey able to support Danfoss Ally thermostats. @Doekse do you happen to have any update on this? Last time you promised an update in the summer, but thatās already long past.
Weāre currently evaluating how we could use their API. Since itās a paid service, integrating it isnāt as straightforward as simply implementing it. The free version would unfortunately be too limiting for our usecase.
To explain a bit further, we follow one simple principle: we never pay for APIs. It just doesnāt align with our business model. We offer our partners two options:
- provide a free local API with no recurring costs, since it runs locally, or
- provide a free-to-use cloud API.
At the moment, Danfoss hasnāt agreed to either option, as they rely on Zigbee for local integration.
To be honest I find it a bit odd for Danfoss to talk about smart heating while their only integration is with Alexa and Google Assistant. Thereās nothing smart in 2025 in voice control. I also find it really odd they have not been able to bring Matter so that any Matter controller could freely control the Danfoss ecosystem products. As such, I see that Danfoss doesnāt really have anything smart in their products, except for the marketing perhaps.
So yeah, I agree local connection would definitely make sense, whether it be an API or Matter.
Zigbee is not really an option as itās not working with Homey reliably and is lacking some critical features.
These things make it clear that theyāre a heating company before anything else, and smart systems just arenāt their main focus.
But Iāll keep trying to steer them in the right direction and see where it leads.
I appreciate you trying to form a formal partner connection with them. That would obviously be the best option (I call it option A).
But have you considered (as a option B) supporting Danfoss Ally API with your official app in a way that customer would get their own credentials for the Ally API and just type them in into the Homey app? Danfoss Ally API credentials can be created by anyone for free and they have an eternal expiration. This could be done by anyone themselves with a little bit of instructions.
This is still better than option C, which is the Tuya Cloud connection. This is what I am using currently. So I connected my Ally Gateway to Tuya Cloud and I use the Homey Tuya Cloud app to connect to that cloud API. But this is obviously a bit hackish solution. It also has couple of limitations: 1) There is an expiration of 6 months and user has to renew the credentials twice a year and 2) there is a limit of 10 controllable devices.
As far as I see, for Homey Pro type of users, many would be happy with option B if option A is undoable.
