Please treat me kindly, I’m new to Smart Homes! (But I’ve work with computers and networks my whole life.)
This spring I bought an IKEA Dirigera, some 15 Kajplats, two Bilresa, and a Tofsmygga. The aim was to do all the outside lights remotely controlled. Then I read that Homey could handle D-LINK and TAPO stuff as well. So I thought it was a Smart Idea™ to have everything handled by Homey.
But I just can’t figure out how to connect my newly bought Homey Pro to the Dirigera and see all my IKEA stuff. I’ve read all I’ve found online, but I fail to matched the online info with what I see in the IKEA and Homey apps.
I might be blind.
Could someone please help me?
(I guess I could reset all the IKEA thingies and pair them directly to Homey Pro, but that would be a major hassle as all the bulb are high up and/or in awkward places.)
Cheers!
Mats
Short answer: Forget the Dirigera and connect the IKEA devices directly to your Homey.
You cannot control these devices “through” the Dirigera hub.
So this app doesn’t work?
The IKEA Dirigera gateway is installed on my Homey Pro, and it’s through that I’m trying to create a connection.
It presumably works a bit like this:
(don’t expect your devices to magically appear in Homey. AFAIK this is the case with the new Hue hub f.i., but certainly not with just any hub)
When it’s connected to Homey, install the aforementioned Dirigera app, and then install the to the Dirigera connected devices @ Homey by using the “Add device” option (top right).
OK. So why would a “Dirigera” app exist? The developer was just bored?
No, apps can’t create devices in the background. It’s simply impossible, only way you can add a device is during pairing so each device needs to be paired first (even for Hue)
- This unofficial app only supports Zigbee devices, not the Matter devices the OP uses.
- I had the Dirigera hub connected as a Matter bridge, which exposed all the IKEA Zigbee devices connected to the Dirigera hub to Homey. Using the official Ikea app. Worked like a charm. But it doesn’t expose the IKEA Matter devices via the bridge, you have to add them via Multi admin.
- The Ikea Matter devices work much better in combination with Homey than using the Dirigera hub in my experience. In the beginning some of the Matter devices wouldn’t even connect to the Dirigera hub, but they connected with Homey.
- Now Homey supports firmware updates there really is no reason to keep using the Dirigera hub.
Although you could use Multi admin to connect the Matter devices to both the Dirigera hub and Homey, in my opinion it is better to just start over one time by resetting the devices.
Thanks for the explanation.
I find the lack of comprehensive documentation somewhat irritating. As a software developer, it comes natural to me to at least write a man page…
