Connect Sonoff ZBMINI-L2

I’m trying to install a ZBMINI-L2 in front of a lamp. I’m installing it on the lamp side as there is no place at the switch.

The two wires coming from the switch are connected to S1 and S2, wires to the lamp on L in and out. From the designs in the manual this should be correct, but it doesn’t work as the ZBMini seems to get no electricity.
If I wire them in the opposite way the ZBMini gets electricity but switching it on/off causes the fuse to blow. What’s the proper way to connect this?

OK, got it. Apparently I need the ZBMINI for this situation.

Are you sure? With both devices you need a permanent (brown) live and it looks like you only have a (blue) neutral and a (black) switch wire.

Other considerations:

  • If you have another wall switch or outlet next to the one for the said light, there might be more room for fitting the Sonoff module;
  • In case of a neighboring wall outlet that you don’t need, an option would be to sacrifice it and use the space for the module;
  • The ZBMINI indeed also needs a live wire as well as a neutral one. Also that module is bigger than the L2. If you are going for a ZBMINI, then there is also a new version, which is smaller: ZBMINIR2. If you have a neighboring wall outlet (on the same group/circuit), then you can extend the neurtal wire from there, if needed.

It’s not clear on the picture but that’s a blue and brown coming from the switch.

The point is that the wire coming from your wall switch to you light is not permanently powered. Only when you put the wall switch in the ON position. The Sonoff switch module requires a permanent live cable on ‘L in’:
