The energy application and the possibilities it brings, such as visualizing energy consumption and utilizing data in flow automation, bring the expected addition to Homey’s usage possibilities.
However, an electricity bill is not always so simple that only kilowatt hours and taxes are sufficient as variables.
Fortunately, in the Homey Energy app, you can also create your own calculation using your own formula. However, creating a formula can also be quite challenging.
I will provide an example below of what should be taken into account in the formula. In my own example, which is from Finland and a bill from Helsinki Energy (Helen).
SELLER Helen Sähköverkko Oy
Basic fee 1 month 17.71 eur/month
Daytime transmission 2.62 cnt/kWh
Night-time transmission 1.37 cnt/kWh
Power-based fee (Peak power) 1.61 eur/kW/month
Electricity tax 2.8112 cnt/kWh
National emergency supply Agency fee 0.0163 cnt/kWh
VAT 25,5%
How can you use a formula to differentiate between overnight and daytime transfer prices, for example?!
Add additional variable for transfer price or any time based. Then using flows change that value when needed, and use that new variable in the formula as well.
look like the current dynamic Pricing doesn’t fit for this use cases. Athom is aware but is looking in how to provide more flexibility an we don’t know if, how and when that will be available.
Are all variables available for the dynamic pricing formula? I’m using Cloud, can’t yet confirm this myself.
If yes, change your custom transmission price variable minute before the new period starts. By that it would be included in the dynamic price formula next time it is evaluated. This way the price calculation becomes very flexible. You just have to do some simple additional logic yourself.
Edit: Only the price is available to the formula. No go for now.
In my mind the most flexible way would be the ability, to set the current price via a flow. Then all calculation could be done in a flow and additional it would be possible to direct transfer prices from other apps like Tibber to Homey Energy.
