Boot loop - backup restore has no effect

Hey all,

My Homey Pro started boot looping today. It comes online for about a minute, then the LED ring breathes red and it reboots. Keeps repeating.

What I’ve tried:

  • Disabled experimental updates (wasn’t running any at the moment)
  • Cut off the Homey’s power for a few minutes
  • Restored firmware via USB tool
  • Factory reset via USB tool + restored from cloud backup (I’ve picked an earlier backup from a moment I wasn’t experiencing this issue)

I have contacted Athom support, but I figured maybe someone else has an idea that I could try. So I’m not sitting in the dark tonight, literally…

It now seems to be stable after a few reboots, as it shows the spectrum screensaver on the LED ring permanently. However, it seems disconnected even though it’s connected with the official Ethernet adapter and it does show up in my unify dashboard

Mostly also just documenting this for others with the same issue. I have managed to disable all the apps that were installed on my Homey Pro and it’s been stable now for a few minutes without losing connection. So I’ll be slowly turning on apps to see if any of them was the culprit.

Been a few hours now, only have a couple of core apps enabled. But it started boot looping again…

I have exactly the same issue, it started today around 13.00 and rebooted many times. I am on the latest stable firmware 13.0.0.

This afternoon it became online again for a few hours but at around 21.00 it started rebooting for about half an hour.

Before the 13.0.0 firmware the Homey pro 2023 was rock solid. Could it be that 13.0.0 is the problem?

Sounds very similar indeed! Odd thing is that if it’s indeed the 13.0.0 firmware is that it was working fine for me for a few days

Yes, 13.0.0 was working fine for me too until today.

I did see that around the time the reboots happened the cpu temperature was much higher. But can not see if it was higher just before the reboots or that the reboots itself made it go higher.

Looks like for me it was the Sun Times app that kept crashing due to API errors which seemed to have destablized the system triggered the watchdog, resulting in a shutdown.

I do recommend the Sun Events app

That’s one app which never failed on me since 2020.

As the Sun Times app is brand new, you could discuss your findings with the dev, but unfortunately he doesn’t offer support

Thanks for the link to the other app!

I indeed already tried to look if there was an forum topic or another link attached to the App Store page, but alas
