Aqara Temperature sensor & M3 Hub (via Matter)

Good morning everyone!
Ok, so, very quickly, my setup: I have a HomeKit setup, Homey Pro 2023 & the Aqara M3 hub and several child devices on the hub (as well as various other non Aqara devices).

All weekend everything was fine. But this morning, it is telling me that the temperature sensor was factory reset or removed from Homey. The thing is, it’s still working just fine in HomeKit AND the Aqara app. What’s even more strange to me is that ALL the other devices connected to Homey through the M3 hub via matter are working just fine in Homey.

Two questions:

  1. Does anyone have any idea what happened (or how?)
  2. What is the best way to fix it.

Removing it from the Aqara Hub and reinstalling it in order to get Homey to see it again isn’t a huge deal, but I would like to avoid that if possible

Is your Homey connected to ethernet?
The phenomenon you describe seems to happen with wifi connected Homeys.

No, it is connected via ethernet

Ok, no, I just checked - it seems to be connected through WiFi - I have the ethernet connector (the official one), and it is plugged in and everything - how do I get it to connect via ethernet?

Ok, getting very confused - I first checked my router and saw the Homey connected via wifi. But when I looked in the “about” section of Homey, I saw this:

So I am very confused - is it using both?

What you’re looking at is correct.
Only wifi is not actively used when ethernet is connected and functioning.
According to Athom the connected, but not actively used wifi, is used as failover in case of ethernet issues.

It had been a minute of additional work for Athom to add a little explanation to this screen..

Ahh, ok that makes sense! Now I just need to figure out WHY the sensor was removed from Homey and how to get it back

If you like, you can disable Homey’s wifi alltogether (when I’m right), by using the setup menu (press pin for over 8s, but not longer than 25s).

You have the option to disable WiFi (if you want to), but it requires you to put your Homey into setup mode: https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/7263241090716-Activating-Setup-Mode-for-Homey-Pro-Early-2023

EDIT Ah, I think we posted the same .

Well, I like the failsafe aspect of having it connected.

Also, if wifi was the issue, wouldn’t at least SOME of the other M3 child devices also be affected? The temp sensor is literally the only one - and it was working fine all day yesterday - and it is STILL working fine in HomeKit and the Aqara app.

Agreed, but all I’ve read is about strange issues (suddenly removed or factory resetted devices) with wifi connected Homeys, combined with Matter-over-wifi devices.

I have to leave for work here in a few minutes, but when I get home, would you suggest I give shutting off WiFi a try?
Also, do you think that will reconnect the sensor, or will I have to remove/reinstall it at the M3 hub?

It wouldn’t hurt to disable wifi.
But I don’t get my head around the cause of resetted/removed devices on “only with wifi connected Homeys”:
'Cause when your router restarts, this possibly also can cause resetted Matter-over-wifi devices ?
Weird stuff.

It will not reconnect the sensor automatically when it caused this message:

AFAIK you’ll have to reset the M3 hub’s Matter interface and then add it’s devices to Homey again per Matter.

But my knowledge on this matter comes from forum information.

I have a few matter devices in Homey. I don’t know if they’re matter over thread or matter over WiFi. If I disable WiFi on the homey, will that affect any matter over WiFi devices? Also, would it prevent me from installing any matter over WiFi devices in the future?

As far as I know, WiFi - in this context - refers to how your Homey itself connects to your local network/internet. It does not relate to how your devices connect to your network. I have WiFi disabled on my Homey and it controls WiFi devices (via the local network) just fine.

I assume the same applies to matter-over-WiFI devices. But I don’t have any experience with such devices.

Indeed, it doesn’t matter if any device is ethernet or wifi connected, when both use the same subnet.

Ok guys, I was nervous that I was gonna mess things up, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger. My Homey is no longer connected to WiFi. I also removed the Aqara M3 hub and reattached it to Homey. Everything seems to be working fine - hopefully it will STILL be working fine when I wake up tomorrow morning lol!

Just wanted to update you all and thank you VERY much for your help!
