Would TP Link (Tapo P115) be a good alternative do you think?
Hi, i do not blame anyone for the situation as i do not have the clear details. However i would have expected more professional communication from athom. What is the situation, what are we doing (if so) to have the app available for the customers at the shortest possible notice and, what is the expected time to solve. That is not asking much, just clear professional communication. Till today we still are completely in the blind.
Also if Athom does not expect a solution any time soon (what i read between the lines) let the community know.
Has anyone experienced that the callback in homey when you want to add a device in Tuya app and get to their login sceen doesnt work? I enter correct login info on the international page but it says I donāt have an account on my email or phone. But I can login on their website and in the Tuya smart app.
EDIT: Tried to search. Found nothing. Crazy that you have to find the thread and read 100 comments to find what you were looking for - additional people w same problem. Well, found it ![]()

Noooo! Really?!? ![]()
I wouldnāt recommend TP-Link at the moment, as their API is currently quite buggy. That said, we did receive updated API documentation this week, so improvements may be on the horizon!
In the meantime, Iād suggest opting for a solution based on Zigbee, Z-Wave, or another local protocol for better reliability.
Feel free to check out our Best Buy Guide for more recommendations! ![]()
Youāre kidding right?
This surely canāt be the official Homey line on an official forum about an āofficialā partnership on the official app, from the official partnerships guy?
Absolutely comical.
Just fix the damn thing in collaboration with your client (in a professional way) or donāt.
Donāt use the forum like this please.
Weirdly for me at the momentā¦
My Eve Motion sensor (the new Matter one) is able to control the Tuya wifi lights I have perfectly fine at the moment. However, the flows, which turn the lights on manually using a wifi switch made by Retrotouch that I use override Eve sensor when I take a shower, donāt work.
@Doekse please update the first post of this thread, it doesnāt reflect the current state of the app (nor Athomās apparently new opinion about Tuya in general)
I want to take a moment to address the current situation and provide some clarity. In short, Iāve been open and honest with you all from the start, and I donāt want to raise false expectations if things donāt work out as hoped.
At this point, weāre still in discussions with Tuya, but itās becoming increasingly apparent that their preferred solution involves requiring usāor LGāto host our own Tuya cloud. If thatās the direction this goes, it would mean all the progress weāve made so far would essentially go to waste. Weād need to first build a full cloud infrastructure and then create a new Tuya app for Homey that integrates with itāa process thatās both time-intensive and resource-heavy.
Weāve been collaborating with Tuya for over six months now, and itās been a genuinely enjoyable experience. However, the recent decision to revoke our API access without prior noticeāand in direct breach of our agreementāfeels like a significant setback. Itās disappointing, to say the least, and it undermines the trust weāve worked hard to build.
What I meant to convey is that even if this situation gets resolved, my trust in Tuya as a brand has been broken. Personally, I can no longer recommend their products under these circumstances. They would need to demonstrate a genuine commitment to our partnership before I could reconsider. I hope you can understand my perspective.
As the partnerships guy at Homey, my goal has always been to foster partnerships that enhance the smart home experience for everyone. When situations like this arise, itās disheartening. While I recognize that weāre all businesses aiming to be profitable, I firmly believe in prioritizing user satisfaction and ensuring smart home devices work seamlessly together. Thatās what drives meāand our work at Homeyāand I remain committed to that mission despite these setbacks.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this challenging situation.
Can someone confirm this workaround is working fine with homey pro and tuya plugs?
Considering the situation with Tuya. Is it possible in any way to upload custom firmwares to tuya devices to make it possible to control them without cloud? (so the devices are completely separated from tuya)
You can control most Tuya devices locally if you have the local keys for them (or have an app that will retrieve them for you).
Thereās also an app for it: Tuya App for Homey | Homey
But it only has limited device support. Ideally there should be an app that allows you to generically map Tuya ādata pointsā to Homey capabilities, like the Home Assistant integration does.
Ok. If I have the local keys, they do need to be updated once in a while from tuya iot platform?
The documentation for the Home Assistant integration suggests that the keys need to be updated periodically, but also that this is only required when re-pairing a device. And the HA integration will retrieve the keys automatically from the Tuya cloud servers is you allow it.
Ok. So it is possible to avoid tuya as long as I don`t need to re-pair a device. Maybe this will be my best backup solution if the parknership would not work out between homey and tuya.
There are other methods of making Tuya devices fully local and independent of Tuya, but they would require either flashing custom firmware or hacking the hardware.
I wondered, is it a idea te make a container with the cloud inside running on the home local?
Iāve been wondering about that too. Maybe going for the Tuya CUBE API option and running it directly on Homey Pro could work. But Iām not exactly a technical expert, and from what my colleagues have said, it sounds like it would be difficult difficult lemon difficult.
Wow i managed to do the steps in the tuya developer platform, made the right inputs in the app, but if i want to add a device, the app comes back with āplease configure the app firstā, Which i have done⦠Have i misses something? Some guidance is much appreciated ![]()
Ah managed now after activating some cloud services trialsā¦hope it will be stable until the official Homey solution:)
Quite some steps to take but i can use the flows with Tuya devices again. Thanks community developers!
(Un)Professional Tuya pulled the plug. What kind of professional answer can Athom give, other than hoping for the best. The alternative is judicial approach. In both cases, the timepath is uncertain.
