[APP] Tuya - Connect any Tuya device with Homey (by Tuya Inc. / Athom)

If this is the case, then it’s question which communication protocol they use and if it’s really the best option to rely on (“Chinese”) Cloud. But that’s why I asked about the use case, as we do not know.

With Homey we’re relying on (“American”) Cloud :man_shrugging:t3:

If people are happy with their Tuya devices who are we to say that they should stop using them and pay a lot of money for replacements, especially when other home automations still work fine with those devices.

I agree, but this is not what I suggested nor said, maybe I was misunderstood  I commented to potential Homey buyer (did not check his existing smarthome) and said that if someone is considering Homey, “Tuya” or better to say “Tuya Cloud” it is not/shall be not the only decision factor why to buy Homey. And if the particular user rely on “Tuya” / “Tuya Cloud”, that there are still some options left - eg. integrating Tuya locally, as example.

I mean I understand the frustration here but are all of the users suddenly left with the only option ?
After what they did, I would never choose them (Tuya) as reliable partner (my personal opinion - no need to argue, no need to discuss business model behind - we don’t have details of this partnership anyway).

So what are the options left ?

I think :

I would probably start focusing on PLAN B and alternatives. If this situation will resolve quickly, that would be nice (Christmas) miracle.

  • Don’t use Homey at all, but use another platform that still has a working Tuya integration, like Home Assistant.

What is Home Assistant using to add Tuya?

I’m also trying to figure that out. If I remember correctly, you could previously just log in with your Tuya account (though I’m not 100% certain). Now, it seems they require user codes, which you need to copy from your Tuya account. This approach could be an alternative for us as well.

My user case is to bring all my SmartLife sockets (14), hue lights, digital electrical and gas meter together in one app and create flows to manage.

Sounds reasonable. It’s a pity that Home Assistant is further in that regard

Not further, it was the unellegant way of doing it. And Homey tried to make it more user friendly by just allowing the normal login. this would be a step back, not ahead. But it would solve the new issue. You are a bit bashing here IMO, the implementation was a perfectly good and ellegent one that was supported and agreed upon by Tuya, they broke it. You are very keen to blame the victim here. That the community devs for the HA plugin never used that option is just plain luck, or it was even out of reach for them before. I think Homey deserves credits for activly spending their resources and time on talking to those companies to create more elegant solutions, and most of the time it works out, sometimes they get side blinded.
Like posted before those methods have been implemented before in community plugins for Homey also.

I am completely not trying to bash anyone here! If that’s what you think, you misunderstood. I am very happy with all the efforts that Athom has put in here!
I have been very patient!

And ok, “further” was not the correct word. When they first came out with the official Tuya app, I was really hoping that Tuya folks would also appreciate and respect this collaboration, unfortunately they don’t. No, Athom is definitely not to blame here!

However, I would be interested in what costs for us would be involved if Athom would go that route.

Glad we agree

We’re talking about HA, right? Adding a Tuya device there is more user friendly than on Homey because you don’t even have to know your login credentials.

Yes, I was referring to Home Assistant, based on your option “Don’t use Homey, but something that still has a working Tuya integration like HA”
I have never used HA myself, but moved from Domoticz to Homey. From what I understand, HA has an integration that works just fine. So, it makes me wonder how they have done that.

I was happily using the community Tuya app. Only huge downside was that quite a lot of things were missing. For example: I was able to switch on and off some lights. But I had no option to change the color. And if I did have that option, it would change to a different color. It wasn’t perfect, but was sufficient. I don’t know how Tuya smart sockets work in the community app as I only started buying those after the official app was released. I thought I was safe to assume it would only improve from here.

@robertklep , this is the sort of integration you’re referring to, right? https://youtu.be/k9_SyfToDEw?si=KE3EBIT_scem909l

Tuya themselves developed that integration for HA.

Correct.

So i experimented today and used the Tuya app unofficial.
Followed the guides, did all right.
But Tuya made it so that i can only control 25 devices. So now its only working for 50%
1 lamp turns on, 1 lamp does not.

I really hope Homey can soon sort this out. I did not buy my HomeyPro to use it with Tuya, but a lot of my lights are still in there untill they break.

@Doekse Any news you can share with us?

I only have one Tuya Device which is a Magnum Floor heating thermostat. Since my girlfriend and I both work in irregular shifts I made a flow that used the calendar function to determine what time is best to turn on the floor heating in our bathroom. (our shifts are automatically put in our calendar using a special app used by our employer.)

Best way to overcome the not functioning Tuya app is to add the thermostat to Home Assistant. Homey then operates the device using webhooks.

Best (temporary) solution i could think of right now.

Optional workaround (Tested yesterday):
Create an Amazon Alexa account and add Tuya Smart plugin (Hardware is not required)
Install Amazon Alexa on Homey - Then you will have all your Tuya devices in Homey
It works well

Sadly not … I just tried this.
But it seems i get an error message once i filled in my code on the app

The development team reviewed the Home Assistant integration, and aside from using different endpoints, the API implementation is quite similar. This could be a viable alternative if Tuya is willing to help set up these endpoints.

I tried the HA app in homey. However my tuya thermostat is not visible in the device list in homey?

Therefore i temporarily use webhooks.

Is it possible to add thermostats to possible
Devices?
