Google Nest Controls brings Nest cameras, Google/Nest Wifi and Google/Nest speakers and displays into Homey. Automate camera on/off, keep track of battery and power, manage Wifi and send spoken messages from Flows.
I originally wanted to switch my cameras on and off and restart Wifi from Homey. The app now also handles battery reminders, network information and spoken announcements on Google/Nest speakers.
Cameras
- Battery percentage for supported battery cameras and doorbells, with Homey’s battery tag and Insights.
- Separate states for charging and power connected. A camera can be connected to power without actively charging.
- Camera on/off controls and conditions for Flows.
The camera overview uses a green power button for on and a red power button for off. Press the button to switch the camera. Battery fill and colour follow the percentage. On a battery doorbell, ∞ means the doorbell transformer is connected, while battery percentage remains visible; its plug indicates USB charging power separately. Cameras without a battery show a green plug when online. Unknown power readings use an orange plug with a question mark. Expand Network and device information for full model names and available IP, firmware and network details.
Sort the overview by name, battery percentage, rechargeable type or model. Press the selected sort again to reverse the order. Battery sorting starts with the lowest known percentage; unknown readings and cameras without batteries stay at the bottom in either direction. Sorting uses the existing readings without making extra Google requests.
Battery readings have been verified on Nest Cam battery and Nest Doorbell battery devices. Wired cameras can offer on/off control without battery information. Support depends on what Google exposes for each device; feedback about other models is welcome.
Flows for battery and charging
Triggers are available when the battery drops below a percentage you choose, charging starts or stops, or power connects or disconnects. Conditions let you check battery level, charging and power connection. There is also a camera status refresh action.
For example:
- Battery drops below 20% → send a push notification.
- Charging starts → send a notification.
- Every evening, if battery is below 30% → send a reminder.
Paired devices are checked every minute by default, so these are periodic updates rather than instant cable-change notifications. The refresh action uses the shared cache; repeated requests do not force repeated Google reads. Unknown readings are not treated as zero battery or disconnected power. Transition triggers need a previous known reading and do not fire just because a device is first added.
Wifi
Monitor your network, restart the whole network or a single mesh point, run speed tests, pause/resume internet for a connected device, or prioritize a device. Use Wifi Flow cards for scheduling and conditions. Optional presence detection is off by default. The settings page also provides network and connected-device information.
Wifi controls have been tested with Nest Wifi Pro and Google Wifi. Reports for Nest Wifi (2019) are welcome.
Speakers and displays
Send spoken messages from Flows to a speaker, display or Cast speaker group. Choose from 37 language and regional options, set announcement volume, use slower speech or choose to announce even when media is muted. A broadcast action sends to all individual speakers added to this app; groups are excluded from broadcast to avoid duplicate announcements.
The dedicated Speakers tab shows discovered devices, volume, media mute, playback status, IP and available firmware/network information. It follows the camera overview’s compact structure, with expandable device details. Actual Wifi band (for example 2.4 or 5 GHz) is shown when a speaker can be uniquely matched by IP to the signed-in Google/Nest Wifi network. This is a reported connection reading, not a guess based on supported frequencies. Without a match, the band is omitted. This tab is read-only. Add speakers as Homey devices for room controls, volume, media mute, playback and device Flows. Media mute is separate from the physical microphone switch.
Speakers use local Google Cast on the same network as Homey, without the app’s Google sign-in. Text is sent to Google for speech synthesis. Messages are limited to 200 characters and interrupt current media; previous media is not automatically resumed. Temporary announcement volume is restored after normal completion. Queued messages expire after two minutes, and uncertain playback is not automatically repeated to avoid duplicate announcements.
Supported devices
- Cameras and doorbells: Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor, Nest Cam IQ Indoor/Outdoor, Nest Hello / Nest Doorbell (wired), Nest Cam (battery, indoor/outdoor), Nest Cam with floodlight, and the wired Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell families.
- Wifi: Google Wifi, Nest Wifi and Nest Wifi Pro.
- Speakers and displays with built-in speakers: Google Home, Home Mini, Home Max, Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub (both generations), Nest Hub Max, the Nest Wifi point speaker and Google Home Speaker. Cast speaker groups and stereo pairs can also be added.
The Supported devices link at the bottom of Overview lists individual models by introduction year. Camera functions and available readings depend on the model and what Google exposes.

Chromecast, Chromecast Audio and Google TV/Android TV devices are excluded from direct discovery, pairing and control. Cast groups are logical endpoints: their individual members cannot be inspected or filtered by this app, so choose groups containing the intended Google/Nest speakers.
Cast speaker groups and stereo pairs can also be added. Camera live video and motion/person/sound/doorbell events are outside this app’s scope.
Setup
- Install the app on a compatible local Homey platform running version 12 or newer, and open its settings. This includes compatible Homey/Homey Pro models, Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server; Homey Cloud/Bridge alone is not supported.
- For cameras and Wifi, follow the guide to use a separate Google account, invited as Admin to the correct home in Google Home. For speakers only, open Speakers or add a speaker directly; no Google sign-in is needed.
- Sign in using that account’s email and the one-time Google sign-in token described in the guide. The app does not ask for your Google password.
- Your devices appear in their settings tabs. Add cameras, Wifi devices or speakers as Homey devices when you want room controls and device Flows.
The app runs on Homey. Cameras and Wifi need Google’s cloud services; speakers need local network access and internet for Google’s speech synthesis. No phone needs to stay connected after setup.
Settings and navigation
The settings page keeps cameras, Wifi, speakers, internet status and command history in separate tabs. The compact browser-style tabs wrap onto several rows in narrow windows. Selecting a tab moves its entire row to the front, directly connected to the content in a continuous frame. Expand device information for technical details while keeping the main overview compact.
Scope and test feedback
The purpose is to bring Google/Nest management functions missing from the official Homey integrations into one shared overview and control layer. Cameras and Wifi networks are found through the signed-in Google account; speakers and Cast groups are discovered locally on Homey’s network. It is not a general inventory of every Google device on an account.
This is an independent app using unofficial Google services, which Google may change. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. It does not provide live video or motion, person, sound or doorbell events. It can work alongside integrations providing those features.
Commands run in background queues, and the interface keeps the latest requested state visible while work completes. Camera and Wifi commands retry recoverable failures; speech has a separate policy to avoid repeating a message after an uncertain result. History records commands from users and Flows. Internet outages are shown under Internet.
If something does not work, please include your Homey model, app version, exact camera or Wifi model, what you expected, and what happened. For a battery issue, include the reading shown in Google Home at the same time. Never post sign-in tokens, cookies, passwords or full diagnostic dumps containing account details.
Open-source inspiration and credits
Two projects provided the original starting point:
- nest-rebooter by Joep Prijsman: the Google Home cloud method for restarting a Google/Nest Wifi network and the associated sign-in approach. The project also provides scheduled restarts and a post-restart speed test. This is a network reboot, rather than a Wifi on/off switch.
- gpsoauth by Simon Weber and contributors: the Google Play Services authentication and OAuth token exchange used as the basis for this app’s Google sign-in implementation.
Thank you for sharing that work openly. Both projects use the MIT license. They supplied important foundations; the Homey integration, camera controls, camera battery/charging/power readings, device overview and associated Homey Flows were developed in this app beyond those original projects.
Additional thanks to google-wifi-api-node and googlewifi-api for their Google Wifi API work, used as references for network status, devices and speed tests. Attribution and license notices for the incorporated code are included with the app.
The speaker integration uses an original local Cast implementation, with Google’s Cast protocol documentation and node-castv2-client by Thibaut Séguy as protocol references.
