[APP][Pro] SolarEdge + Growatt TCP modbus

Amazing!

I have another question, something I can’t figure out. Occasionally, when I set my inverter to ‘forced mode’ and ‘charge’, it doesn’t stick (it stays at self-consumption mode) or the other way around. It’s almost like the modbus is not accepting commands, and I have to try again (which sucks for my workflow). Do you have any idea what could be the issue?

Hey @Edwin_Biemond I have one question: While the app works great and gets me all the statistics from the Huawei system, it does not power the Homey energy parts if I see that right. Have you thought about breaking it up into virtual devices like battery, PV system, and full energy meter, instead of the inverter device bringing all data in? That could still be there, but it could then be excluded from energy to not mess up data. Like that, the flow from the roof and the batteries could be fully transparent in Homey. Thanks!

I expect the normal read is still busy and holding/ blocking the modbus connection. we can add a retry or check if it is really changed and try it again.

hey,

not really because I have to make 20 more devices when it is just a homey issue. we are asking them for a big year already ( keep asking) to add a new device class and more fields to specify it all.

basically our inverter is a 3 in 1 device with a meter, pv and battery. so I can easily specify pv daily, batt (dis) charge and grid in / out or self consumption.

can virtual devices not support this? plus measure_power is now pv - charge + discharge to keep the bookkeeping correctly and not make up energy which is not there.

but let me check with codex and see if it can do something smart , without making many devices.

with codex made battery virtual devices in a few hours

So for solaredge and growatt with batteries , can you try this new test version SolarEdge + Growatt TCP modbus | Homey

Added battery virtual devices, it will detect your batteries and re-use your device data again without doing extra modbus calls.

still measure_power on main device is showing pv + discharge - charge. will check if we can make it optional. so homey energy can be a bit off with current power.

tested solaredge inverters with lg and solaredge batteries , it seems on modbus for LG and BYD have no total (dis) charge data → SolarEdge monitoring server accumulates incremental charge/discharge readings to build the cloud totals. So you have to use cloud install but cloud will merge all batteries to 1 devices.

for Growatt like to have some feedback , pics and reports

and include:

  • Inverter model and driver: standard, TL or TLS.
  • Whether the battery bank appears during pairing.
  • Power direction: positive charging, negative discharging.
  • SoC, SoH, temperature and charged/discharged totals compared with Growatt’s readings.
  • Recovery after an app restart or connection loss.

Or do codex yourself and send me a PR ( higly appreciated)

Will add other brands later.

thanks Edwin

Since I got the latest test update last night my growatt goes offline on the modbus connection . Only the first few minutes after app restart it works . Then it goes offline

I send in a diag report

the new test version has an option to read all registers in 1 go , check device options. also increased the timeout option because you are using wifi and not lan.
