[APP][Pro&Cloud][OFFICIAL] SolarEdge - Powering People’s Lives Around the World

Central topic for:

SolarEdge | Homey

Hello,

I have just installed this application and added 2 devices, the SolarEdge Inverter and the Merer.

It looks like the apps running for few seconds and then they look to be crashing for some reason. the error i get in the app details is: CPU Warning Limit Reached

anyone has any idea what is causing this issue. Please have in mind that i have installed another application for the inverter monitoring: SolarEdge + Growatt TCP modbus
don’t know if having 2 applications for the same device is causing the second application to crash.

looks like meter power is house load. and it is very unstable. more on and off plus I think polling every 30 seconds with multiple devices is probably not really appreciated by them.

you are right, the ON duration is about 30 seconds, and then the application crashes.

What I didn’t really understand is, if this is related to the application (bug in the app) or if it is related to my meter (not ideal/compatible) with SolarEdge inverter.
My meter is: Inepro, PRO380-Mod electricity meter

also, another note for the solaredge app is that the meter device only reads the consumption, not the Import and Export.

nothing to do with your meter , it connects to the solaredge site , not to your inverter.

I think I saw the same . with 1 device(battery only) it is stable.

thanks its clear!

was thinking you can only poll once per 15 min. (need some paid service like on homewizard and solaredge) maybe we get blocked in a few days.

Homey lately lost connection to my SolarEdge account. The device was gone. Not sure if it’s connected to the App or other Homey issues. There was a Backup issue lately.
Re-added and had to fix the flows… slightly annoyoing. Has someone experienced the same?

SolarEdge app 1.8.1 – login rejected after my SolarEdge account moved to the new auth; the app then locks the account (~24 login attempts/min)

Hi @Emile_Nijssen,

Since 25 Sept my two SolarEdge devices (Battery + Inverter, app v1.8.1 on Homey Pro 2023) showed “Invalid e-mail and/or password.” permanently, and re-pairing now ends in “Unauthorized”. Timeline and findings:

  1. It started the minute I changed my SolarEdge portal password. The portal itself now signs in through the new auth layer (monitoring.solaredge.com/mfe/auth/) and after the change my new password works fine there.
  2. The app still authenticates with a form POST to https://monitoring.solaredge.com/solaredge-apigw/api/login (j_username/j_password, expecting a 302). Clean reproduction after uninstalling and reinstalling the app (no devices, so no polling; account verified unlocked by a portal login): in the pairing wizard the login step itself now passes, but the next step (getSites → services/m/so/sites/) returns 401 and the wizard shows “Unauthorized”. So the legacy form login still answers with a 302 for a migrated account, but the cookies it returns are no longer a valid session for the data services.
  3. Side effect that makes recovery impossible with existing devices: SolarEdgeDevice.onPoll() runs every 5 s per device and retries login() on every poll while not logged in. With two devices that is ~24 failed logins per minute, and SolarEdge locks the account within minutes (“Invalid input: Password attempts exceeded”). Because Homey only lets me change device settings while the app is running, every attempt to enter a new password races against the app locking the account again. Also, onSettings only logs in when username/password actually change, so re-saving the same (correct) value reports “saved” without any check.

Suggestions:

  • Back off after a failed login (e.g. stop retrying until the settings change or the app restarts) – this alone would stop the account lock-outs.
  • Log in once per app/API instance instead of per device.
  • Move authentication to SolarEdge’s current login flow, or to the new SolarEdge ONE developer API (OAuth 2.0; the legacy V1 monitoring API is announced to be retired on 1 Nov 2026).

Happy to test a build. Thanks for the app!

Update / partial correction: after removing both devices, leaving the app installed with no devices for a night (so no login attempts at all) and re-pairing the Battery the next morning, everything works again — so the legacy form login itself is fine for my account. The 401/“Unauthorized” I saw during re-pairing yesterday was still the SolarEdge account lock-out. Root cause of the whole episode was therefore purely the lock-out: after a password change the app keeps retrying the login every 5 s per device, SolarEdge blocks the account, and from then on every attempt (including entering the correct new password) fails.

So the request stands, but simpler: back off after a failed login (stop retrying until settings change / app restart) and ideally log in once per app instead of per device. That alone would have prevented this. Recovery recipe for others in the meantime: disable the app, wait several hours, remove the devices, enable the app, re-pair (one login).

I will be taking over the maintenance of the SolarEdge app from @Emile . The app will be extended with new drivers for local modbus connections.

The current cloud interfacing will be kept mostly ‘as is’ with some Homey Energy improvements if possible.

But for both the cloud and the local modbus app development I do need the help of the community. Please send me a DM if you are willing to:

  • Either share your cloud credentials
  • And/or are willing to port forward your Homey and invite me to your homey (needed for modbus access)

SolarEdge app v2.0.0 is ready for testing:

This is a major rewrite, so expect bugs and breaking changes!

What’s new since v1.8.1

All devices

  • Complete rewrite of the app
  • Available in 13 languages (was English, Dutch and German)
  • Poll interval can be set per device (default 10 s, minimum 5 s)
  • Smarter polling: devices of the same account share their API calls, and energy data is fetched right after the inverter uploads new data
  • Existing devices are updated automatically, so no need to re-pair
  • New devices get all their capabilities during pairing
  • API answers are logged for diagnostics reports, which makes troubleshooting easier

Inverter

  • Voltage per phase (L1/L2/L3)
  • Today’s highest optimizer temperature
  • Inverter status (production, sleeping, starting, throttled, shutting down, fault, standby, off)
  • Alarm for open site alerts
  • Connection alarm (no false alarm at night while the inverter sleeps)
  • Flow cards: inverter status changed / status is …, voltage per phase changed, energy today changed

Meter

  • Power now shows grid power (import positive, export negative)
  • Home consumption has its own tile
  • Connection alarm
  • Flow cards: home consumption changed, imported energy changed, exported energy changed

Battery

  • Charged and discharged energy, also used in Homey Energy
  • Remaining energy
  • Battery health
  • Connection alarm

EV Charger

  • Energy and duration of the current/last session
  • Charge mode (auto/manual)
  • Solar charging on/off
  • Vehicle name
  • Charged energy no longer drops
  • The always-zero “discharged energy” is removed
  • New action: Charge automatically
  • Flow cards: charge mode changed / is …, solar charging turned on/off / is on

Home Load Controller

  • Power: measured, or estimated from rated power and level
  • Flow cards: state changed / state is …

Note: this version only covers the cloud interface. The local modbus drivers will be added after the cloud drivers have been tested as stable.
