[APP][PRO] Oral-B – Bluetooth toothbrush integration for Homey

Is it solved?

Hi Mark,

Yes, it’s solved! Apparently flows work a lot better when you actually turn them on. So the bug was located somewhere between the chair and the screen.

Sorry for the false alarm.

Hi @Mariomark1541,

Sorry to say, but last evening and this morning the battery status was not updated after usage. Everything else working fine.
I’m now off to work for the next 5 weeks, so will not be able to test any more until medio november. Maybe someone else will be able to give you input on the issue until then.

Brgds Jan K.

We have one IO5 brush with two separate brushes. After installing and connecting in Homey the brushes don’t work in the OralB app anymore.

:toothbrush: Oral-B for Homey – Test Version 0.2.10: Bluetooth & Battery Improvements

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

A new test version of Oral-B for Homey (v0.2.10) is ready!

Thanks to the valuable feedback from the community, I’ve been working on improving Bluetooth reliability and battery percentage updates.

:battery: What’s improved?

1. More reliable battery updates

  • Improved battery refresh after brushing sessions.
  • Fixed situations where a battery refresh request could be lost.
  • Improved retry handling when a Bluetooth connection fails.

2. Better Bluetooth connection management

  • Shorter and more controlled Bluetooth connections.
  • Improved handling of multiple toothbrushes.
  • Better connection cleanup to reduce potential interference with the official Oral-B app.
  • Fewer unnecessary connection attempts.

3. New setting: Read battery over Bluetooth

You can now enable or disable battery readings individually for each toothbrush.

When disabled:

  • Live brushing information continues working.
  • Brushing history and Homey Flows remain available.
  • The last known battery percentage stays visible, but won’t refresh.

This is particularly useful for testing compatibility with the official Oral-B smartphone app.

:test_tube: Testers wanted!

I’m especially looking for feedback from users with:

Oral-B iO5

  • Does the official Oral-B app connect and sync correctly?
  • Does disabling battery readings in Homey make a difference?
  • Do both toothbrushes continue reporting brushing information?

Oral-B iO8 / iO9

  • Does the battery percentage update after brushing?
  • Does it continue working reliably over several days?
  • Are charging events, brushing history and Flows working correctly?

:warning: Important

Version 0.2.10 is an experimental test release. The changes have passed automated tests, but real-world Bluetooth testing is still needed.

Please let me know your toothbrush model, Homey setup and any issues you encounter. Diagnostic reports are also welcome!

A special thanks to Jan K. and everyone else who has been testing and reporting issues. Your feedback really helps improve this app!

Thank you for your support, and happy brushing! :toothbrush:

Best regards,
Mark

Funny i see you created this app. I created a Oral-B app about 8 weeks ago, i didn’t publish it though as i don’t have much time to operate it in case something breaks for users. But thanks for publishing this app!

I have Oral-B IO6, right now i’m trying to find some way to control the motor. Probably impossible, but i’ve found some commands that hinting towards that possibility.

My custom Oral-B app installed locally on my Homey Pro 2026 also has a “Smart FInish” to detect if you took a too long break so Oral-B detects brushing finished, but Homey sees that you just took a break and you can just keep brushing. Homey then sees those 2 Oral-B session as the same sessions and only detects finished when there’s no more brushing.

I will also try your app! I’m curious to see what you have created!

Controlling the motor is not possible, Oral-B does not provide any method in their firmware to control the motor (probably for safety reasons, since the Bluetooth connection is not protected by pairing so it would mean anyone nearby could control the brush)

Yeah, kinda figured. But you can’t say it wouldn’t be fun to say like “Alexa, turn on toothbrush” :joy: I have my own app for my Logitech G923 steering wheel aswell, where Homey actually controls the motor in the steering wheel and turns it.
