I have the same problem, gave up found no solution. Did you get any response?

Maybe you can start utilizing Device Capabilities - Device Capabilities | Homey

It also offers ā€œgroupingā€ capabilities and much much much more.

I recently had an issue with the group app, where it was not able to control a light, every time I added it to the group ā€¦ it removed itself immediately.

It ended up being an issue with the light and I had to remove and re-add it.


@Sharkys Device Capabilities is a great app and very useful, (I use it myself even). HOWEVER Athom are working on native grouping, I wouldnā€™t be surprised if it is released with their dashboard (which is close to testing this month).

If you can wait ā€¦ wait to see if their native solution fixes your issues - iā€™ve been waiting for them to do groups for a very long time (obviously I like the feature). And I am excited to see what they come up with, hopefully the tens of thousands of people who use the group app will be able to have one less app soon.

(Disclaimer, I suspect merged, union and fused groups might be still required - but that is the minority of users).

Did not know theyā€™re where working on native grouping, but at the same time I wondered why it not already exist as it does in other automation systems.

I have had issues with groups. My solution was to create a new group, adjust flows to new group, delete old group and rename new group to old group name.

Had todo with the version of a group device, issues with older group device version ( I think/suspected).

Since The latest Homey Update groups are no longer working. I have two groups both of 3 Lamp. Since the update in both Groups, 1 of the 3 lamps Itā€™s no longer working when I tried to control them with the group app

I pretty much always have to restart the Group app after a Homey firmware update to restore function.

Any news about this?

Iā€™m getting tired of lamps getting ticket off by themselves in the app. My lighting automation have been working great for several years, but now some lights donā€™t react on commands randomly.

When I do a ā€œRepairā€ in the app I can see that the unresponsive lights are no longer ticked in the list. I mark them again and it works for a couple of days until the same thing repeats itself. This is not OK in my view.

Absolutely! But you did mention native grouping and I simply asked if you (or anyone else reading this thread) have heard anything new about it.

I expect an app not to remove things that I have told it to remember. If my phone lost numbers in my phonebook now and then I would not be OK with that either. :wink:

Have you looked into this issue or is development halted due to the expected native grouping?

I know Iā€™m repeating myself, but try restarting the app instead of repairing. Much faster, and in my experience the list of grouped devices is restored.

That would entirely depend on where I got my phonebook from? If I paid apple $1000 then I would start throwing around messages like ā€œthis is not good enoughā€, maybe if I had paid $50 I would be asking when to expect it to be fixed.

But if it was a free app which someone donates their time to, out of the goodness of their heart. Personally I would be nice and see if they would do me a favour by looking into itā€¦

But you do you, do what you want and see what works.

Itā€™s not a permanent solution, only a quicker recovery for this particular problem.
Nowadays I mostly use zones to control lights, only have two groups and use them mostly to monitor which lights are on, but apart from after firmware upgrades I donā€™t encounter the problem very often.
