[APP][PRO] Dyson Fans

Thanks for reporting. I’ll look into possible reasons for that.

I think you should be able to fix it for now by restarting the App. Please let me know if that resolves it? I’ll see if I can prevent it from happening altogether.

Restarting the app didn’t solve it.

Ok, then at least removing and re-adding the device should work if you want to go through that trouble. I’ll look into it soon, hopefully this weekend.

After using my Dyson for some weeks now, unfortunately today I lost my internet connection. After rebooting my modem everything seems fine although the Dyson wasn’t connected anymore. Ive tried everything, even deleting te app, reinstall and search for the fan again, but nothing seems working, the device simply can’t be found anymore.

Any tips?

Yes, if you read up a bit, you see that you have to unplug the fans from power, and then plug it back in. That will solve it.

I experienced that as well and Mark who developed this amazing app said he will try to see if he can make it more reliable in a future update:

If you never switch off the fan and leave it on automatic, you might experience the same issue after maybe a week or two. Unplugging your fan from power and re-plugging it again should fix it for now.

Thanks for answering,

Unfortunately it doesn’t, i’ve tested this multiple times, it still can’t be found anymore. Regarding the official app for Dyson, this app didn’t find the device not once. So the Dyson Fans app is still the most trustworthy.

To narrow down the issue most likely caused by mDNS being blocked on your network, I would confirm it with the tool above.

Thanks,

I can’t use this tool because I only use MacOS computers. I’ve downloaden a MacOS compatibel mDNS browser instead and I was able to locate the unit.

Any other options?

Great, thanks for testing it. At least we know your Dyson fan does it’s job to advertise itelf on this particular network.

Did you run this tool from the exact same network your Homey is connected to? If your Homey is connected using the LAN, test should be completed on PC / MAC connected to the same LAN as well.

Just to be sure, you are still able to control your fan using the official Dyson App directly on your Mobile Phone (not Homey related)?

How is your network looks like?

  • How is your Homey connected?
  • Do you have multiple Wifi networks / different VLANs?
  • Which type of network equipment are you using?
  • Anything else that might be relevant

Hi Didier,

It’s becoming more interesting everyday. Thank you for your support so far.
This is what I can tell you regarding your questions:

  • Yes the Dyson official app is still able to fully operate the device.
  • Yes I’ve tested it on the same LAN. The mDNS lookup was running on my Mac, wired connected to the main router.
  • My homey is wireless connected to the main router within my network
  • The Dyson Fan is literally connected to the same router.
  • There is no VLAN separation configured.
  • The network runs on 2 SSID’s over one router and 3 acces points.
  • The second SSID is configured for supporting older devices.
  • The Homey and the Fan are connected to te same SSID.

So far…

Hi Niels,

Sorry to hear it’s still not working for you. I’m going to ask you some things you probably already tried and answered, but I need a picture as complete as possible to help you, so please bare with me :).

  1. You said the app cannot find your Dyson device, but it did work up until your internet connection failed, right?
  2. Do you still have the Dyson Device in your device list (but showing as disconnected)?
  3. If so, can you please remove it and add it again via the + button?
  4. When trying to add the device, does it show any found devices that you can select? Or does the list of available devices remain empty?
  5. If it does see your device in that list and you select it, does it show up in the device list afterwards?

Hi,

Indeed I did all those things already,

  • It just can’t be found anymore.
  • It’s not a device in homey anymore,
  • it’s disconnected from the power multiple times and still not found as a new device when reconnecting.
  • Yes it works before the Internet was disconnected…

I have published a new test version of the App here:

I do not expect this will solve your issue immediately, but I’ve added some additional logging that might just help us figure out what’s going wrong.

Could you please install this test version and try to add your device. At the point where it fails, please send in a diagnostics report. Hopefully I’ll be able to determine what goes wrong for you with that information.

@Niels_van_der_Voort I forgot to mention: please make sure you uninstall the currently installed version first, such that we can test this from as clean a situation as possible.

Hi,

I’ve uninstalled the software, went to the homey test version en installed this new 1.01 version.

Indeed it didn’t solve the problem, the device is still not there.

Niels

Hi Niels,

Did you send a diagnostics report for the App? I did not receive one… Hopefully that will tell us more about why things are not working on your end.

It is necessary for the diagnostics report to be sent right after installing a clean install (uninstall again first if any version is already installed), logging in with Dyson and searching / selecting devices. Otherwise it will probably not contain the required discovery information.

I’ll look at it asap after I receive it.

Cheers, Mark

I’ve just repeated the procedure after enabling the diagnostic report switch.

Thanks

Awesome app finally have heating control for my dyson heat and cool link, only issue is the power control doesn’t work and gets an error every time “missing capability listener: on/off”
the offical dyson app still works so i will use that for power for now.

@1400 compared to “official” app, yours works - awesome. But it only finds one of my two TP07 dysons unfortunatelly :frowning:
