Alex,
Are you seriously suggesting that something only counts as promotion if you make money from it?
Do you honestly think I’ve been paid for the countless hours I’ve spent developing, maintaining, fixing bugs, and supporting this app over the years?
I’ve invested thousands of hours of my own free time into this project. And what did I get financially? A few coffees a year in donations, if that.
And I find it particularly arrogant that you seem to think having no donation link somehow makes you morally superior to someone who has spent years providing free software and support to this community.
Congratulations, you don’t accept donations. Does that make you a better developer? A more generous person? Does it somehow give you the right to dismiss the work of someone who does?
Having a donation link doesn’t mean I’m getting paid for my work. It means that after years of unpaid effort, people have the option to buy me a coffee as a small gesture of appreciation.
The audacity of using that distinction to portray yourself as the selfless developer helping everyone, while simultaneously exploiting the community and visibility someone else spent years building, is quite remarkable.
So please, spare me the lecture about developing for the community. I’ve been doing exactly that for years, long before you decided to advertise your project here.
The difference is that I didn’t build my community by jumping into another developer’s established support thread to advertise my own work.
Using someone else’s years of effort, visibility, and community to draw attention to your own project is parasitic behavior. Whether your app is free or paid makes absolutely no difference.
And your sarcastic “sorry for hurting your feelings” only makes your attitude worse. This isn’t about hurt feelings. It’s about basic respect and professional courtesy.
What’s particularly astonishing is that even after being explicitly asked to stop, you ended your response by advertising your app in my thread yet again.
You clearly have no intention of respecting that boundary.
If you want an audience for your app, build your own. Don’t exploit the one someone else spent years creating.
I’m done discussing this with you.
