[APP][Pro] Blink for Home - Smart security designed for every home

The doorbell has two different flow trigger:

  • Doorbell button was pressed
  • A motion was detected

Both are triggered based on the recorded video. Using cloud storage, the video has an attribut what was causing the recording (motion or button). So you can react on both indpendently.

Perhaps the doorbell is sending notifications directly as defaut (would make sense for the button).

@ricercar
Do you have a feedback for me, which trigger you are using and if the ‘button pressed’ trigger is working correctly? Just to be sure the API is still returning the expected data (I don’t have a doorbell and can’t test).
Thanks.

Here is the flow I’m using.
There is a ~30s delay after the trigger but I decided that I don’t mind

I won’t be where the doorbell is hanging till june. I’ll be available then for any feedback/test you suggest

The 30sec delay is still stange with subscription.
The alert should come in the 10sec request interval. Or Blink as something changed. The video was still visible from the API dieectly after start recording - independent of the revording length.

But what are you doing with the snapshot card? I don’t think it will be working, because when you get the alert, the camera will still record.
To use the snapshot, you can use the output tag from this card. Or easier: just use the global image token from the doorbell device in a push message card. Using the token starts recording a snapshot internally.

you’re right . the snapshot was in error. I modified it but I don’t get an image, just Homey’s logo

When you get the notification, the camera still records. You can’t do a parallel task in this case.
But using cloud, you get a preview image from the motion/button trigger.

I recently bought a Blink doorbell during Prime Days, but I’m disappointed to find that the “push button” action isn’t recognized by Homey until 20-30 seconds later. Unfortunately, @RonnyW hasn’t been able to resolve this delay.

So, I’m reaching out to the forum: Has anyone managed to get the “push button” recognized by Homey within a few seconds? Perhaps by using IFTTT as an intermediary? I really like this camera and am eager to get it working seamlessly with Homey. For now, I do not need to video or snapshots to work with Homey - only the push button.

You won’t get it to work directly in Homey. The Blink API does not support this kind of alert/message.
The Blink alert is only a simple push message to your mobile phone.
So the only way to get an instant alert in Homey would be using an automation App like Tasker or Automate om your phone, recognize the Blink message and send a Webhook to Homey.

I’m open for any suggestions to make it work so thank you for your quick response.
I could find the two apps you mention (Tasker and Automate) but only on Google Play. Since I have an iPhone, I unfortunately cannot explore this option.
Any other suggestions?

I think you should better ask in “Question&Help” category how it’s possible to create automations on an iPhone reading phone notifications.
I remember there have been similar questions.

I’ve done the same as you and purchased during prime day and noticed the exact same issue. I’ve yet to try this but I’ve done this for another case and it worked there so I hope it will also work here but it’s dependant on you having Alexa. Create a virtual switch in Homey and make sure it’s pushed to Alexa. Then setup a rule in Alexa that if the doorbell was pushed flip the switch to the virutal switch. Then build the rule in Homey to pick up the virtual switch change. I was going to give it a try this weekend.

Good morning,
I am writing to you with a question to which I cannot find a concrete answer. I want to buy Blink Outdoor cameras but I can’t find any information on which hub is necessary. Can I directly connect a Blink Outdoor camera to my Homey Pro 2019? I just want to view the live video stream (no recording, scanning, etc.).

Thanks for your help

Homey does not support video streams. You can watch the video only in Blink mobile app.

Thanks

Why is there a “When” card for then this device? i’m not able to trigger anything.

The trigger is based on on the recorded video.
If the video gets triggered by a button press, this flow trigger is fired.
But if have motion alert active, this video will be recorded with source=motion and only the motion trigger is fired.

The app can identify the events only based on the videos.

that doesn’t work for me. I got a flow that was triggered by Zigbee button before, I exchanged the “When” card with “Doorbell button Pushed” (a video is recorded locally only) but the flow is not started.

Hold on: are you saying if motion alarm is set to active this doesn’t work?

I think so. Because motion will trigger recording first. And if the button is pressed, the doorbell won’t record a second video if the first still records (camera busy).

I found a solution to get notifications in Homey within seconds of someone pressing the doorbell AND it works without a subscription.
It does however require an Android device being turned on all the time. I found an old Samsung phone and has it plugged in to a charger 24/7. Could also be a tablet.

  1. Install and log into Blink app on the Android device.
  2. Install the free app “Automate” on the Android device.
  3. In “Automate” create a flow that looks for any push notification starting with “Someone is at *”
  4. Once the notification is received, it sends a HTTP GET command to your Homey which you can use as your “When”.

I’ve been using it for a few days now, and it works flawless
I use the Blink app to access 2-way voice and video recordings from the sync module but since my doorbell is my Sonos speakers in the house, I needed the connection to Homey to be almost instantly.

Good luck.

Hi Ronnie,

Since the last version of the Homey software, I’ve problems with my cameras. Open the Blink app at the button of the screen We have activate and deactivate button I think of the whole app. Before the software update I could switch on (Or activate) every single camera And I can switch off them also. But now after switching off, the whole app is on “deactivate”. And in Homey, I can’t change that. There’s no possibility to activate or deactivate the whole app. And when it’s deactivated, I can’t switch on the cameras anymore. Can you please please help me?
