[APP][Pro] Amazon Echo - Your Home, Your Assistant, Always Ready

Hi @staeff is there anything you might be able to do for this please? I’ve seen on a couple forums that it works in Home Assistant, but it doesn’t seem to currently work with either Homey Alexa apps. Thank you kindly good sir

Hi @Drako74, sorry, but I won’t be adding the Air Quality Monitor. I’m keeping this app to Echo devices on purpose. I only own Echos, so I can’t test anything else myself, and every other kind of device means troubleshooting hardware I don’t have. The library behind this app could read it, so it’s not a technical limit, just a choice to keep the app something I can actually support well. Thanks for understanding!

Okay, thanks for the honest reply, appreciated. I almost wish I had bought more of them when they were on sale for 30 quid, at that price I’d have happily sent you one to test  I had to ask though, so thank you for understanding.

thanks for checking the logs to confirm this.

ill run the tests that you mentioned either tomorrow or on the weekend. good idea on running a routine in the alexa app to see if it occurs there. ill remind myself to take some screenshots of the announcements i set up for reference.

yea ive been using say for the critical announcements as they go through regardless if the echo devices are on dnd or not. i dont have too many long announcements from memory. the ones that were annoying that it said it twice is when it keeps me informed about my solar production and my tesla battery percentage throughout the day. ill see how i go after testing. if its too annoying i may change these to a say instead of announce. i would like to keep the peace in the house by not having this announce too many times during the day.

i would prefer to keep alexa+ enabled also. appears that other people in the house are liking it so far.

I’ve already been using short and medium length ones and hasn’t repeated so far. still doing some tests to see where it would start repeating.

there’s a character limit so I can’t put the same amount of text as my tests.

I just used one of my responses in this forum post and it cut it off as shown here. the say is a bit longer than the announce on the Alexa app.

the full length from my response that I used in homey to test is this:

Hello Staeff,
Would it be possible to create a card to enable or disable an existing alarm in Alexa? Thanks.

Alternatively you can use the alarms native to Homey, that with Flows give you a great deal more flexibility and control…

Hi Thierry,

This is in the next version (2.5.0) that is currently available as a test version. There’s a new flow card Turn an alarm on or off: pick the Echo, then choose one of its alarms from the list (shown with its time, label and next ring) and set it on or off.

I also added three more alarm cards:

  • An alarm is set for today/tomorrow (condition)
  • Get the alarms for a day: gives you their times and label as tags, e.g. for a notification
  • Skip the alarms on a day: a repeating alarm skips only that day and stays on for the days after

So a flow like “at 20:00, if tomorrow is a public holiday and an alarm is set for tomorrow, ask me whether to skip it” now works, together with the Public Holidays app and Homey’s own “Confirm … with [user]” push notification.

One thing to know: Amazon can only skip an alarm’s next ring. So if an alarm still rings later today, tomorrow’s can only be skipped after that.

If you try it, please let me know how it goes, especially whether a repeating alarm keeps its days after you turn it off and on again with the card.

Hi Staeff,
Thanks—this is exactly what I needed, and it works very well.

the groups no longer work

please create a diagnostic report and also be aware that play/pause on groups only works if there is something actually playing on the group, not just an individual speaker.

Quick update: I’ve removed the “looking for testers” part from the title and updated the first post. The app has been stable for quite a while now, so it didn’t make sense to call it a test version anymore. The first post now lists everything that has been added since (music, alarms, Alexa lists, Do Not Disturb, screen controls, …) and has a short troubleshooting section.

I was also a bit behind on thanking the people who sponsored the app over the last year. So a big thank you to Andreas B., Andreas G., Frank H., Peter S., Christoph W. and Daniel H. Your support is much appreciated! You’re now also listed in the first post.

If you’d rather not be mentioned there, just send me a message and I’ll remove your name.
