Hi everyone, I have a homey pro 2023 and an homey bridge and noticed, that the bridge was not setup in satellite mode. So I tried to change this, but have problems resetting the bridge and adding it via the homey app. I constantyl get the error message “BleManager not started”. Also I’m not able to reset the bridge - it never pulsates in blue after startup, but shows the normal rainbow animation.
Could anyone give me some hints on how to solve this?
Thanks, Thomas
Did tou add Homey Bidge to Homey Cloud?
yes: when loggin into my homey account, I can see the bridge under “meine Geräte” with it’s MAC address (don’t know, how the english term is…” ![]()
Switch to your homey cloud.
Then
https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/360018715980-Resetting-Homey-Bridge-to-factory-defaults
Do you refer to the mobile app or the web app? I can only see the bridge in the web app…
You should be able to select the Homey with your Bridge on both the Web App
and also on the Mobile App
I definitely see it only in my web app, thus I can’t follow the instructions “Navigate to Devices → Homey Bridge, and long-press the icon.” Isn’t there a possibility to reset the bridge manually on the device? I also see the bridge in the network, but can’t access any webinterface to reset it…
Hmmm… That is My Devices …
The Web App is where you go to fe Advanced Flows and can choose between Homey’s
But your Bridge’s subtitle “Homey Pro” says it is connected as Satelite to “Homey Pro”, so it isn’t connected to a Homey Cloud.
So search in the Pro, It should be in your Homey Pro
or go here: Homey Developer Tools
and Search in all your devices for: virtualdriverbridge
btw:
How did you notice/conclude that ?
Thanks Dijker for your input!
I see it now in the Homey Developer Tools, that’s correct. How can I see that it’s setup in satellite mode? I assumed it’s not setup correctly as it also sends presence messages and I thought this should only happen if it’s connected the normal way, not in satellite mode. Or am I wrong?
The bridge isn’t related to presence (messages), Thomas.
These messages would be coming from a Homey Cloud instance you once added to the Homey app.
When it’s succesfully added to a Pro, there’s no other mode it can run.
I finally got an answer from Arno from homey and everything works fine now!
The solution was: disable router and WiFi, unplug the Bridge and replug it. It then looks for a known WiFi and since that is missing, it automatically goes to setup mode with bluetooth and the pulsating blue ring. Then switched router and WiFi on again and added the Bridge in the Homey App again. That’s it!
Thanks for all your in put and help!
Thomas
Oh wow, that sounds like “the real” reset procedure to me.
Did you ask Arno to have Athom add that crucial piece of info to the knowledge base article below?
https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/360018715980-Resetting-Homey-Bridge-to-factory-defaults
no, I did not assuming that this information is somewhere available but I couldn’t find it (as a rather unexperienced homey user in such things) ![]()
It’s the first time I’ve read about this trick, Thomas.
It’s not in the knowledge base as far as I could find.
It is, but not where you’d expect. It’s here: Changing the Wi-Fi network of Homey Bridge – Homey Support
No, imho not really: it assumes there is no known wifi SSID at all.
The trick mentioned here is “to fool” the bridge by temprary turning off the known wifi completely, not by changing the SSID;
only then the bridge will reset itself when powered up.
I am having this problem too. Initially, when I received this today, took it out of the box and setup was straightforward. Was found, updates installed, etc. I then had to run out. When I came home and back to the task, I did not see the Bridge anywhere so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now I am seeing the “bleManager not started” error.
I don’t understand the instructions here to fix this… I am supposed to shut my entire network down so there is no WiFi then unplug and plug it back in again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Or you can go somewhere out of reach of your wifi ![]()
The idea is: when the bridge can’t connect to a known Wifi SSID until it times out, it resets itself after reboot.
Yeah, decided to go pickup pizza. Took the bridge with me. Plugged it in at the pizza place. When it booted up, I tried adding it and it was found and ready for setup. So when I came home, plugged it in, tried the addition again and same issue.
I may just send this back to Amazon… it doesn’t work.
So, for the next victim (sarcasm) that is trying to get the bridge setup. Here is what finally worked for me after several hours…
I BLOCKED the Bridge from my network. This triggered the searching and then found the Bridge while trying to add it. Once I got to the screen that searched/listed for WiFi networks, I unblocked it from the network, tapped my network, entered the password and it joined successfully.
I feel like Athom owes ME $99 now. It shouldn’t be this difficult. The Bridge engineering and thought that went into this thing is non-existent.
I hope it will be fine with 50-60 Zigbee devices and a few Zwave devices.
