Adaptive lighting with Homey Bridge + Cloud?

I bought a Homey Bridge so I could have adaptive/circadian lighting with my Ikea Jetström; I’m trying to create an automated, fake window effect that recreates the kind of natural light during a normal 24-hour cycle. Unfortunately, apparently I can only use apps to do this in the Homey app if I buy a Homey Pro or Mini: bummer, would have been nice to know that to begin with!

I’ve manually set up Morning/Midday/Evening/Night flows, but it’s not working perfectly and it’s simply not an elegant solution. Are there any other options? Are there other apps/work-arounds out there that work with Homey Cloud I could try? I don’t want to have to buy a pro or mini (tight budget). Many thanks for all suggestions!

Hi Donna!

No offence, but you seem to expect a €3/month cloud-Homey has the same possibilities as the other types, which, as you stated are not for your budget (these are indeed (way) more expensive).

A quick search showed me various pages with clear comparisons

On topic:
AFAIK there’s no Homey cloud compatible app available which provides for circadian light fx.
I’m not aware of any workaround besides adding a delay to the light control flowcard, triggered by sunrise card.
For each light temperature change, add a light control flowcard with a longer delay.

This is not very precise, you probably have to create different flow sets for, say, each month, because of the days getting longer and shorter during the year.
But it’s doable imho.

About the limited apps:
Athom only allows brands or companies to create apps for Homey cloud, which disqualifies the great tools created by the even greater community developers.

Hi Hal,

I’m very new to all of this, so I guess I was naive to think that, yes, a bridge + cloud was all I needed. Indeed, I asked the AI bot on the Homey site what I’d need, and that was the answer.

But thanks for the suggestion, which I’ll try!

Honestly, I think a lot of beginners would assume the same thing. Smart home setups can get confusing really fast, especially with the differences between Homey Bridge, Cloud, and Pro not always being obvious at first. At least now you know the limitations before spending more money later.

The delayed flow idea actually sounds like a decent workaround for basic adaptive lighting, even if it’s not perfect. Hopefully Athom expands Cloud support in the future because a lot of casual users probably just want simple automation without needing the Pro version. Good luck with the setup, and hopefully you get it working the way you want!
