I got tired of the rather heavy workaround using ioBroker, MQTT and Device Capabilities, so I created an app from scratch — finally resolving my own app request from 2022. ![]()
The app communicates with the stove over your local network. Only models with a Wi-Fi module are supported. I’m using it with a HAAS+SOHN HSP 6; other models are untested. If you try another model, please share your results here.
Getting started
Install the app, add a pellet stove, and enter its IP address or hostname and the PIN configured on the controller. Homey needs to be able to reach the stove on your local network.
What you can do
- Switch the stove on or off and set the target temperature.
- Control eco mode and the stove’s weekly program.
- Monitor current and target temperature, operating mode, pellet consumption, and cleaning and maintenance indicators.
- Use stove error information in Homey and your Flows.
- Lower the temperature when you leave home, or turn the stove on when it gets too cold.
- Disable the built-in weekly program and create your own event-based schedule. I use Advanced Scheduler for this.
- Combine heating with a weather forecast, presence detection or other Homey devices.
Pellet tracking
The remaining pellet amount is an estimate based on the stove’s reported consumption, not a measured hopper level. Its accuracy depends on what the controller reports.
In the device settings you can find details about the detected stove, configure pellet capacity, and choose what happens when an empty tank is detected: leave the estimate unchanged, or automatically reset it to 15 kg or 30 kg. You can also adjust the estimate using a Flow.
I use an Aqara vibration sensor to detect when the stove is opened and ask me on my phone whether to reset the pellet estimate. This helps me keep track after topping up before the tank runs empty — especially before the night, a weekend away or a holiday.
Dashboard widget
The Pellet stove dashboard widget brings the main readings and controls to your Homey dashboard.
Add the widget to your Homey dashboard and select a paired stove. It shows:
- Current and target temperature.
- Operating status and the regular cleaning countdown.
- Estimated remaining pellets.
- Reported errors, with expandable information about possible causes.
You can switch the stove on or off, tap the target temperature to edit it, and reset the pellet estimate with Half full or Full. The reset amounts can be configured separately in whole kilograms; the defaults are 15 kg and 30 kg, and both must fit within the device’s configured pellet capacity.
Temperature editing is disabled while the stove’s weekly program is active. The widget supports light and dark themes and follows Homey’s language setting.
Feedback and support
Please use this thread for questions, feedback and model compatibility reports. When reporting a problem, include your stove model, app version, what you expected and what actually happened. Please leave out your PIN and other private information.
Support the development
These Homey community apps are developed and maintained in my spare time.
Contributions are never required, but they are a meaningful way to recognise the time spent on development, testing, compatibility updates and ongoing support. If one of my apps has been useful to you, you can optionally show your appreciation here:
A contribution does not unlock additional features or affect the support you receive. It is simply a way to say thank you.
