Zigbee Network Problems – Timeout Errors and Unreachable Devices

Hello,

I’m not familiar with these kinds of platforms, but because I’m struggling with the Zigbee mesh (accessibility), I decided to give it a try, but I can’t seem to get it to work…

Network explanation: I expanded the network outside with four power sockets, and now the last socket (outside) switches fairly stably. The next garden spotlight, 2.5 meters away, is a Moes GU10 Zigbee lamp that is continuously powered by the mains. That lamp switches on and off, but gives an error message in the Homey app (timeout 1000 ms). However, given the error message, it has a critical response time. The next spotlight is 3 meters away from the first one and can no longer be controlled. It is in the open field, and all the lights are in an aluminum housing, but removing it does not improve the situation.

I reconnected all the lights outside at the socket, which did improve things somewhat. Light 4 could be controlled, but the third one in between could not, so the improvement was not what I wanted.

What am I doing wrong? Should I buy a repeater and place it outside instead of the socket?

I am quite lost at this point, and it is not much fun anymore.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me with this.

Pro 2026? That one still seems to be flaky concerning zigbee.
But the used brands / types is also a factor, it is not always 100% compatible.

Alu housings is of course a no-no when using (weak) wireless signals.
If possible at all, let the zigbee devices run for a day without those housings, to see if performance/stability improves along the way.

Also mind 2.4GHz wifi signals can interfere.
It"s best to pick a fixed channel, to keep the wifi and zigbee signals separated as far as possible.

Explained here:

No it’s a early 23 version, for reasons, the Homey is not located near a modem, but in another room and on another floor. It is certainly worth trying it without the housing for 24 hours, good idea!

The story of the adapters is a matter for 2026, as far as I know, right?

Thx! The wifi issue is not about the distance between Homey & modem.
It’s about wifi signals and zigbee signals anywhere in your home. Please read the interesting article I linked to. Zigbee is not plug & play (well, only when lucky).

The story about the adapters is for Pro 2016-2019 and the first shipments of Pro 2023.
In case you use an ethernet dongle, it’s important to use a 5.2VDC power unit (instead of the generic 5.0VDC).
This 5.2VDC model became the standard power unit shipped with Homey a few months later.

Hi Peter,

I use the Ethernet adapter, where the power supply voltage is even more important (I gather from other topics), but I have the 5.2v 2.1A adapter… so this could not the struggle from the mesh network I think
