Wiring a Shelly to garage door opener for automation - need help

Tried to automate my garage door over the weekend. Bought a Shelly 1 Gen 4 to wire to the motor unit. The wiring I used is below. The wiring was simple enough (after some research), but I can’t get the unit to pair.

I have the official Shelly app installed. When I go to add a new device, it tells me to press reset 3 times to enter pairing mode. I do that and nothing happens. Some of what I find online indicates when it enters pairing an LED will some on. I don’t see one which makes me wonder if maybe it’s not getting power - but then again, given the small size of the unit, it’s possible I just don’t see it.

Doing more research, can’t seem to find a start to finish install video so asking here. Any pointers or gotchas? Does my wiring look correct? Help on the pairing approach?

Thanks in advance.

Wiring:

  1. Red → Shelly 12V (powers the Shelly) - the + sign
  2. Black → Shelly GND (the -) and Shelly I (ground for both power and relay)
  3. White → Shelly O (the relay closes between O and I to trigger the door)

Have you also connected L and N (110 -230v)? This is necessary for the Shelly to work.

I read in another post that some garage door openers switch to a kind of energy-saving mode after a certain amount of time. This would mean that the Shelly relay would no longer be powered.
In that case, it would be necessary to connect the Shelly relay to an external power supply, whether 12-volt DC or 110–240-volt AC.

Advice: Check the power supply of the garage door opener with a multimeter.

I have but I suspect it isn’t getting power. I had it wired off the garage door opener motor. Since there is a second plug in the wall I’m going to switch to direct power from that and hopefully that fixes it.
