I am unable to add this device using matter to my.Homey 2023. When I try it finds and connects to the strip, then asks for the wifi details at which point the strip looks like it connects (the blinking orange light goes white) but the app just spins until it times out.
I’ve tried this several times with no luck. Conversely my P110m plugs all work first time.
I’ve updated to the latest firmware in the tapo app, but still no joy. I’ve no idea if this is a Homey or Tapo issue.
Have you turned on Bluetooth on your phone? The newer Tapo devices need Bluetooth for setup to the Tapo app (though it should request that automatically). I also don’t understand how this is related to Homey, you say you can’t set it up to your WiFi but that’s something you should do in the Tapo mobile app, not in Homey.
But a Tapo device should be set up and connected to WiFi from the Tapo mobile app first, that’s how all of my Tapo devices work at least. You add it to your TP-Link ID/account and then you can link it to Homey via the Tapo app (or generate a Matter pairing code for supported devices)
That’s not how it worked with my p110m, they were the other way around (first homey and then picked up in tapo automatically) the p305m strip is matter over wifi as the other poster said, so Homey asks for the wifi password.
Trying them the other way (setup in tapo and then add to homey) does not work either. in that instance homey can’t even find the device as it’s not in paring mode (despite me turning it on for matter in the tapo app).
It sounds like you’re describing the process for the non-matter setup, which would be a workaround but this particular strip doesn’t seem to be supported (I have a non-matter p110 running in this configuration)
There is 100% an issue either that I have a defective unit (unlikely as it works otherwise), it’s an issue with the tapos firmware or it’s a problem with Homey, which is why I’m posting here.
I checked in the Tapo mobile app and I see that the P304M should be supported.
Can you go to the Settings of your Tapo device inside the Tapo mobile app and find the “Matter Pairing Code” there?
The only Tapo device I have that supports Matter is a RV30 Max Plus robot vacuum, but I integrate that using Google Home automations and virtual devices, since my Homey Pro 2019 doesn’t support Matter. But in the RV30 Max Plus settings, I see the option for Matter Pairing code there.
I’ve done all of that. If I setup the strip with the tapo app first, then get the paring code and try to add it to homey in the 15 minute window, homey just doesn’t find anything.
If I remove it from tapo, reset the device and try to add it directly to homey it works until you put in the wifi password and then times out.
For context I have 4 p110m plugs connected directly to homey via matter and one p110 connected via the tapo app. It’s only the p304m strip that has the issue. I can be fairly certain it’s not a biological issue on this one.
Does it expose power readings via SmartThings? You might be able to get it working via the SmartThings Community Homey app, though I’ve never used that app myself so I don’t know if it would work
If I’m going to use a bridge it will probably be home assistant as I have a small box running to connect services like Hive that don’t work with Homey. I was just hoping someone from Homey would tell me they were aware and a fix was incoming.
I’m also experiencing issues with tapo devices. I have 3 P110M plugs. Connecting them in the Tapo app is no problem. Connecting them via apple homekit with matter used to be horrible, but since a few weeks this works perfectly. Connecting them to Homey somehow is difficult.
If I connect them in the Tapo app and then go to Homey > add device > click on the Tapo official app > it says: no new devices found. Using the community app also doesn’t work.
I managed to connect one of the plugs though (they all have the latest firmware) using the matter code. In the Homey app > add device > click on matter > connect via Homey. It is strange that it works as the device is not in connection mode during this setup. And it also only works for one of the plugs. For the other plugs it says: device not found.
Does anyone have a clue why these devices cannot connect the normal way using the homey tapo app?
Because P110M is not supported by the Tapo Homey app. The only “M” series model that’s supported by the official Tapo Homey app is the “P125M”. You can use the Google Home or SmartThings workaround listed above
I have several p110m devices attached to homey. The way I had to do it was as you described, first connect to tapo, upgrade the firmware, remove and reset the device and then add to Homey via matter. I then found if i went back to tapo it would say “new device found” and just add it in.
Pairing to tapo and then trying to initiate the matter connection from inside that app doesn’t work and I think there are a few threads on here that say the same.
A quick update: I was able to connect all three plugs to Homey now. All three were already connected in Tapo and not in pairing mode, but simply turned on. When in Homey > add device > matter > connect via Homey. But it seems to work only when I hold my phone very close (a few cm) to the plug. No clue why this works, but for me the issue is solved now.
