Is it possible to stream from a virtual IP camera remotely or is it limited to local network?
The Homey app receives a URL for a video stream, which is almost always pointing to a private/local IP address, so unless you using something like a VPN you cannot stream outside of your local network.
This is what I feared. It’s a shame because I had a lot of hope in the arrival of video streaming within Homey, but if it’s only local it has almost no usefulness for me and the use of a VPN is a bit beyond my technical capabilities.
Ring camera’s video stream will be available in the Homey app regardless of it’s connection to Homey.
I guess any camera that’s cloud connected will as they most likely will use WebRTC. (But do check this for your brand)
You can’t however use the Virtual Camera dashboard widget as that isn’t capable of connecting to a WebRTC stream, the devices app must provide the stream to the Camera Live dashboard widget.
