HomeBrein – one brain for your whole house (in development, testers welcome later)
Hi all,
I’m building HomeBrein, a Homey app that runs locally on your Homey Pro and plans your home battery, EV charging and heavy appliances around dynamic energy prices and your solar forecast.
What it does today (running in test mode at my own home):
- Plans the home battery every minute: charge when power is cheap, sell or cover the house when it’s expensive. It uses quarter-hour prices (EnergyZero), a solar forecast per roof plane and your learned household consumption.
- Respects your minimum state of charge, a night reserve, battery wear and phase limits (P1 meter).
- Is aware of your EV charger. You choose whether the car may charge from the home battery: never, always (down to a minimum you set) or depending on price.
- Energy advisor: tells you the best moment to run the washing machine or dryer. Smart plugs can follow along (start at the right moment, run on solar surplus, use the cheapest hours, or switch off during expensive hours).
- Has a test mode with a “shadow battery”. It calculates what it would have done and compares that with your real result, without controlling anything.
- Flow cards and app tags for your own flows and dashboards.
Coming next: going live via the official AlphaESS app, more battery brands, and sun shading control.
It’s built and tested on an AlphaESS system with Enphase panels, a HomeWizard P1 meter and a Peblar charger. Roadmap and changelog: https://homebrein.nl. You can leave your email there if you want to hear when it’s ready to test.
Feedback and ideas are very welcome!
