Sonos + Spotify in a Holiday Rental: How to Keep Music Playing Continuously & Monitor It Remotely?

Hi everyone,

I’m using Sonos + Spotify + Homey in a holiday rental, and I’m trying to create a setup where classical music always plays in the entrance hall, fully automatically and without guest interaction.

My setup

  • Sonos speaker (entrance hall)

  • Dedicated Spotify account for the holiday home

  • Homey

The problem

The music stops after some time.

My assumption is that once the playlist ends, playback stops and does not loop automatically.

Additionally, I have a few open questions:

  1. How can I make sure the playlist keeps playing endlessly?

  2. How can I check remotely if the Sonos is still playing?

  3. What is the best practice to start playback:

    • via the Sonos app

    • via Spotify Connect

    • or via Homey automation?

  4. I usually start the music on-site using my phone.

When I leave, I log out of the holiday rental Spotify account and log back into my personal Spotify account.

→ Could this interrupt playback or cause the music to stop later?

Goal

  • Music should play continuously (or restart automatically)

  • No dependency on my phone being connected

  • Ability to monitor or auto-restart playback via Homie

  • Stable setup suitable for a rental property

I’d love to hear:

  • Recommended Homey flows

  • Sonos + Spotify best practices

  • Whether repeat / looping can be enforced via Homey or Sonos

Thanks in advance for any insights!

As far as I know you can only use the Homey Sonos app (Sonos | Homey) for this. The available Spotify apps won’t work because the Spotify API can’t control Sonos devices.

Looking at the app there is a “when playback stopped” and a “Repeat [entity]” card. Only thing I would be aware of is that this also resumes playback if it’s stopped by your guests. I don’t see a good option to distinguish a user stopping playback or a playlist stopping..
