Ring Doorbell, Camera and Alarm support for Homey

New test version published

Test version: 2.12.6

  • Added Ring Alarm System support, now supporting Ring Contact Sensor, Ring Alarm Motion Detector and Ring Alarm Keypad
  • Added Motion Type Vehicle to cameras

You’ll find test version of this app here: Ring | Homey

This version adds the Motion Type Vehicle to the Motion Type token on the The Motion Alarm turned on flow card

This version will be promoted to stable to introduce the support for the Ring Alarm System to all users of this app. Addition of other Ring Alarm System devices will be done in next test versions.

Danee, App updated, and tested the keyboard possibilities. I have 2 keyboards.
All is working.
I hope that the Disarmed, Home and Away modes also will be available in a later stadium. Thanks again for the work

Hi Rein,

Thanks. I’m not yet sure if I will add the modes to the Keypad device. I will absolutely add them to the basestation device, as that’ll be the representation of the complete Ring Alarm system.
The Ring Alarm can be used without a Keypad but obviously not without the basestation so I feel it’s better to make them available on the basestation device.

The base station will roughly have the same flow cards as the cards on the app level though there’s no selection for the location needed as a basestation is only linked to one location.

Flow cards already available on the app level:

Sneak preview of the flow cards for the basestation device

The device will look like this

The device will use the default Homey capability for alarm devices thus the descriptions of the modes are Armed, Disarmed and Partially Armed, respectively Away, Disarmed and Home.

Danee, Thanks for your reply. I agree that the base station status, or changing status, is the best way to connect to Homey for automation purpose. I am looking forward to it
Regards Rein

Are there any Ring users who have managed to get their doorbell working again? I just made an unsuccessful attempt: removed the Ring app, deleted the device from the Ring account, reinstalled everything, and added it back.

Still no live view/snapshots or motion alerts.

I’m considering replacing the doorbell, as the integration is essential here.

Having no snapshot available indicates a different problem than the notification issue and sounds like an authentication failure. Live view is never available as Homey itself does not offer support for it.

Could you restart the app, wait a bit and send a Diagnostics Report?

Hi Danee,

Since late last year, I can no longer receive “Person Detected” on my Homey Pro (Early 2019) to trigger flows. I tried fixing it by installing the “Official Ring” app, but the issue persists. I removed the doorbell, revoked the authorization, reinstalled the app, and removed the authorized client in my Ring account. After restarting Homey, I installed the Ring Test App and logged in, but I can’t even play the Ring doorbell video. Is this version incompatible with my wired Ring doorbell or my Homey (bolletje)?

Hi Tom,

I’m afraid you’re experiencing the result of the change at Ring which leads to no longer receiving notifications. It is know and the app has been adjusted to the changes but unfortunately it seems not all users are yet moved to the new API. It’s been discussed thoroughly in this topic since a while, please read back the posts here to better understand the situation.

Thanks for the app update yesterday. (Experimental app)

My Ring Doorbell had been silent for 4 days (motion not triggering any flows) but after the update, the flows are getting triggered again.

New version published

Version: 2.13.0*

  • Added Ring Alarm System support, now supporting Ring Contact Sensor, Ring Alarm Motion Detector and Ring Alarm Keypad
  • Added Motion Type Vehicle to cameras

This version is the start off adding the Ring Alarm system products to the app. Right now the Ring Contact Sensor, the Ring Motion Detector and the Ring Alarm Keypad are added. If you had already installed the app and had another Ring device previously connected you can simply add any of your Ring Alarm devices. If you’re a new user, when adding your first Ring Alarm device you will have to logon with your Ring account. Every device added after that can be added without the need to re-authenticate.

Next to the addition of the Ring Alarm system support this version also adds the Motion Type Vehicle to the Motion Type token on the The Motion Alarm turned on flow card

* While the minor version number has changed in this release, it is not expected to break any previously available functionality. The change primarily serves to clearly distinguish this version, as it adds support for the Ring Alarm system.

Hey,

I am not able to log into my ring account with homey. What I tried:

Reinstalling and restarting the Ring App
Revoke every clients in my ring account.

The Code after reinstallation and trying to log into the account:
f3a7b72e-5fe7-474f-8d0f-e617b092f97c

It was because of my browser… with chrome it works. Safari wasn’t working…

The ring app does not find my device (wired doorbell).
It does authenticate but then times out on searching devices

In the “official app” it does find the bell.

Any tips?
I tried reinstalling the homey app

Hi,

Could you please reboot your Homey, wait untiall all apps are started and next try to add the Ring Doorbell. After it fails, send me a Diagnostics Report please.

Full reboot did the job
