I am very happy with the homewizard plugs, but I also use their p1-meter and kWh-meters
I use INNR SP 240 plugs. They are Zigbee plugs that can handle 16A and have energy measuring. You can find them for less than 15 euro each, if you buy them in a 4-pack.
In have 12 pcs. NOUS A1Z Zigbee plugs. Nous A1Z ZigBee Smart WiFi Socket 16A (4pcs) - Nous technology. €50 for 4 pcs.
The work fine with Homey, with the Homey Zigbee app or the Nous app and works as well with Hue (without metering).
I picked up some of these: WiZ Smart Plug Strømmåler, Type-F | Billig
Quite cheap - around 13-14€ - Wiz smart plug with energy metering. It’s Signify’s cheaper brand, but compared to the Philips Hue smart plugs, it actually has energy metering. Supports matter and also bluetooth apparently.
A bit disappointed that I had to install the wiz app to add them, but from there I could enable Homey integration.
For some reason, in Homey, I cannot get total energy used in insights, cards and insights only supports current energy drawn. The total energy drawn is shown in the wiz app, so I keep my hopes up.
edit: just found out how to add the device via Matter, but when doing that energy metering doesn’t work at all. Just works as a remote on/off plug.
You do understand that your parameters are quite unrealistic? High amperage, low interval energy metering, no cloud / sale of your data, reliable, available, and, above all, dirt cheap.
You want the holy grail. Like: Right. NOW!!!11
Some advice when it comes to getting smart home parts that work reliable and won’t break the bank: be patient and realistic. Or, if you want to start automating already, shell out some more bucks and get started.
Sorry if my post doesn’t help you finding your plug. But you seemed to get very annoyed of things people mentioned here to help you. Not the suggestions are the problem, nor the available products. It’s you own expectations.
While not cheap, I’ve been using some Niko Smart Plugs (552-80699). They’re made in Belgium and use Zigbee. AFAIK they don’t use a cloud at all, just local to your Homey. Their data update rate is fairly fast as well.
I also use some of their Zigbee sockets and have had no issues at all.
Hello
Any one has tried the Ikea INSPELNING listed by Homey in the best buy guide?
It is the cheapest (10€), has high power (3680w) and seems perfect
Too good to be true?
Thanks
Also interested in trying out INSPELNING, unfortunately constantly sold out, so yet to try.
I am usually NOT an Ikea fan, since the furniture is not very nice in my opinion. But the TRÅDFRI segment is outstanding when it comes to quality and functionality, and of course really nice pricing.
@Art_Vandelay , @Olivier_Arthus
Yepp, I bought those when they were released when moving from Telldus (433MHz) to Zigbee. Now we have 9 INSPELNING in total in house + a number of IKEA TRÅDFRI lamps/switches and 2 IKEA VALLHORN sensors outdoors.
No issues to report, all controlled by HP2023 mainly via different flows.
I did a FW upgrade with a HA device to have same FW level on all INPELNING devices.
Finally my lokal Ikea got the INSPELNING smart plug, got a couple, and they work very well.
My only issue is that I am afraid to put them on my freezer since I/Homey could accidently turn them off? Would be great if the on/off function could be disabled so it only worked for monitoring purpose
Don’t know, but if somebody has that tip, please also check what happens if power drops and is switched on again. What is the recovery of the plug? On or off….
(Would be a waste if the fridge does not switching after a power drop)
For critical devices, I would prefer externalmeasurement (Shelly has “clamps” around the wires to measure current)
There IS a setting “Always on” for INSPELNING.
Tested that a while back with a dehumidifier without problems.
After powerfailure or unplug/plugin the dehumidifier started as it should.
That setting is primarily there to prevent you from accidentally switching off a device via Homey (you can still switch the device off/on via the physical button on the device, if it has one). Homey shows a message when you try to switch off the device, informing you that the action will not be performed due to the Always On-setting.
I am not sure whether this setting also controls the default state of the switch after a power off. Normally that is controlled via a different setting (‘Behavior when power is restored’), if available.
The appliace I was using kept it’s state (powered on) even after cutting and re-applying power to INSPELNING. That was “tested” quite a few times as the extension cord it was connected to was moved around. Sometimes without power 2-3 hrs…
Did you also test the other way around: if the Always On-setting is set to No, does your device stay powered off when you reconnect it to power? Or does is also power on automatically?
SRY, nope. I was just happy the dehumidifier did the job at the time ![]()
Perhaps it preserves the power on/off state regardless of that setting.
Anyway, it did the job.
Corrrect, the “Always On” function makes sure that the device goes “On” automatically after powe cut, or if you fysically take the plug out and then put it back in.
However you can still turn the plug off in the Homey system, and this was my main issue, that it could be turned off by mistake (by me or by other family member) It would have been great if the Onn/Off function could have been disabled.
You are probably right regarding external measurement, but I do not have the skills to install Shelly clamps my self =(
A plug that measures but without On/Off would have been good for me
Are you sure? Because none of the smart plugs that I have set to ‘Always on’, can be turned off in Homey. Homey displays an error message when trying to do so:
It’s in Dutch, but translates to: ‘This device cannot be turned off. Change the device settings to disable this feature.’
The only way to turn the plug off in this mode is via the physical button on the plug.
