QUICK MEMO โ Syncing Homey with Alexa Without Chaos
Goal:
Make Homey flows appear as scenes in Alexa, while avoiding duplicated devices and broken routines.
0. Rename devices in Homey with a prefix (e.g. โH_โ, โTEMP_โ)
Helps quickly identify Homey-sourced devices in Alexa after detection.
1. Create a Homey flow that can be detected as a scene
Mark the flow as a favorite (star icon enabled)
Give it a clear and simple name (e.g. โTurn on displayโ)
Avoid complex conditions or triggers that Alexa canโt interpret
Avoid creating virtual devices unless absolutely needed to make the flow visible
2. Trigger detection in Alexa
- Open Alexa > Skills > Philips Hue > Settings*
- This triggers a full scan of connected systems
*(Works with other skills too, not just Hue)
Alexa picks up Homey flows as scenes
But also discovers all exposed Homey devices, leading to duplicates
3. Handling duplicated devices
-
Newly detected devices are marked โNewโ (green dot) -
Alexa treats these as separate entities, which breaks existing routines -
Solution: -
Manually remove the newly detected Homey devices (thanks to the prefix)
-
Keep the original versions to ensure routines continue to work properly
4. Optimized manual cleanup
- Create a group in Alexa called โTo Deleteโ
- Add all duplicated Homey devices to the group
- Remove each device manually via Forget Device
Estimated time: 5โ10 minutes depending on detection volume
Outcome
Homey flows show up as Alexa scenes
Existing Alexa routines stay functional
Your smart home remains clean, organized, and duplicate-free
Hope this could help
