Presence is not stable with Ubiquity Unifi Network, any alternatives available?

Hi all,

I’m pretty new to Homey Pro, so still discovering the options and best practices.

I provided all my family members an account in Homey and they all installed the app. But as the others in the family are not regularly using the Homey app, it must have been closed in the background, with a result that the presence isn’t working anymore.

As we have Ubiquity Unifi network equipment, I installed the Ubiquity Unifi network app, assigned the phones in the family a static IP address and created some flows to change the presence of the family members. This all worked pretty fine for some days, after which I noticed presence wasn’t updated anymore. I checked the devices (phones) in Homey and these correctly show if they are connected with Wi-Fi or not. The issue is resolved by restarting the Ubiquity Unifi Network app, after which it works fine for a couple of days again.
How is your experience with presence, and Ubiquity Unifi Network app? Aren’t there any better, more stable apps available for Homey, which I don’t need to restart regularly?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter!
Why are you using static IP with the unifi app? For me there is need for static IP and MAC detection works stable.

If there’s more than one access point, you need to fix the roaming between them:
I created an advanced flow with “timer” to double-check connection before marking away.

Hope this helps

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your reply.
I assigned static IP addresses to our phones because, after using the Ubiquiti network app for a few days, a couple of phones were shown as not connected in Homey while they actually were connected to our Wi-Fi. Since assigning a static IP, this issue seems resolved.
I also added a delay in my flow to prohibit disconnections because of rooming (although reconnections seemed to happen mostly during the night, maybe because of update on Unifi), so that’s also not the issue.
The phones themselves are shown with a correct status in Homey, the only issue is that it seems the flow isn’t triggered by a connection or disconnection op a phone. And that’s solved by restarting the app.
In the meantime, as a workaround, I have now created an additional flow to restart the Ubiquiti network app every couple of days.

You can try the alternative generic IP based tracker app, Smart Presence
