Please advise what switch to use for lighting in our garden

Hi,

We are upgrading our garden with some light units. Our gardener recommends using a Paulmann 75W/24V Switch/Controller that uses Zigbee. I don’t see an app for Paulmann in the Homey Appstore.

  • Is there any way I can use a generic Zigbee app or train Homey to learn Zigbee commands on its own? (I’m not a programmer)
  • Does anyone have any advice on what brand/type of Switch I should use for my 24V garden lights that are already supported by Homey?

Thanks for your thoughts!

William

See Best Buy Guides,

Hi @William_Sniekers ,
Check out, if you find something in the Best Buy Guides as proposed by @JPe4619 .
As the Paulmann switch is a 24V switch, and I am not sure, if it installed somewhere inside - at least covered - or really outdoor exposed to rainy and icy weather.
Most zigbee switches should work as generic zigbee without an explicit app, if you do not need more than switching on and off and receiving the state.
But I don’t know for Paulmann.
Ask your gardener or dealer, if you can test it before purchasing.
regards Dirk

Hi @DirkH,

Thanx for your response!!

It is indeed a switch that is placed in the garden, and therefore must be weatherproof. Do I understand correctly that Zigbee is a standard at a ‘functional level’? So that another brand controller understands that it is a (light) switch and that it can turn on/off/dim? I just asked if I can test it beforehand.

Greetings, WIlliam.

As far as I know, you can turn on/off. I read recently that there were some more features added, and there are some other apps for better integration of any kind of zigbee devices.
Unfortunately I am not active on these. And finding something in this huge database of posts is even difficult for me. There are too many results with ambiguous titles.
I know they are there, but it takes some time to find the relevant posts.
