Problems are shown by Aqara but after a bit of research it is the ikea routers that are the root cause
Two thoughts:
Will there be a list of âofficiallyâ supported brands/´vendors?
Will there be any possibility to add downloaded FW and update manually?
I thought the ETA for the OTA updates for Matter was Q1 2026? If so, then Q1 2026 is an awfully long quarter this year⌠Strange they cannot get it done. I have seen some Ikea devices being upgraded via Apple Home. But the point of buying an Homey was to get everything in one boxâŚ
Based on what do you conclude this
?
Abe from Athom indicated this week in the latest edition of the Homey Podcast, as well in a.o. this topic, that the OTA functionality will soon be released. I believe they first need to release firmware v13.2.0, which is currently in the release candidate stage.
At this point, weâre in the internal testing phase. The main bottleneck has been Z-Wave, not Matter. Since weâre also testing new Z-Wave firmware and implementation, we want to proceed carefully to avoid breaking anything on your end.
When OTA updates gets pushed to beta it will probably be there for a while, giving developers and partners time to implement and validate the functionality within their apps before we roll it out to stable.
Fair enough. âNot getting it doneâ was too harsh and uncalled for. But It takes way longer than earlier announced. But I do am a bit frustrated that Homey is not the last hub I will ever need at this point.
Will it also be available on my Homey Pro 2019?
OTA updates will be available on Homey Pro (Early 2023), Homey Pro (2026), Homey Pro mini, Homey Self-Hosted Server, and Homey Cloud when used in combination with a Homey Bridge.
Since the bridge uses the same radio hardware as the older HPâs (so hardware limitations isnât an issue), I guess itâs a business decision not to make this available for the older HPâs?
It isnât an issue with the hardware, but the software. As the older gen Homeys use a different stack it requires significant effort to also get it working on the older generations.
Youâre in dream land if you ever think that youâll be able to have your cake and eat it with âone hub to rule them allâ in the smart home space
I have a Homey Pro (2023), a Phillips Hue Bridge Pro and I keep an Aqara M100 handy, because Aqara will never open up their firmware to other ecosystems.
In the future, when Homey finally start supporting third party Thread radios natively with Homey SHS, then Iâll be moving the vast majority of my smart home over to Homey SHS on an Intel NUC + a good third party Thread radio, then my Homey 2023 will be for Zigbee products that canât be supported by the Hue bridge.
Even if you had everything solely in Apple Home, youâll need a border router + youâll end up buying the upcoming HomePad + homepod minis in multiple rooms
So thatâs hardly âall in one boxâ now is it?
It seems youâre not quite familiar with Athomâs infamous ETA called Soon â˘.
This means as much as âwhen itâs finishedâ ![]()
