Old Tablet for a Dashboard

Hey!
I’m planning to set up a dedicated wall-mounted tablet that runs a homey dashboard, and I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations.

My Questions

  • What tablets have you had success with for this purpose?

  • Would an older device—like an iPad Air 2—still be practical in 2025, or would it feel too sluggish/limited?

  • Are there particular Android or Fire tablets that people recommend for budget-friendly setups?

  • Any tips on power management (keeping it plugged in 24/7), wall mounts, or software (like kiosk mode) that make things smoother?

If you’ve tried different setups, I’d love to hear what worked and what didn’t. Pictures of your wall-mounted dashboards would also be super helpful for inspiration.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Thanks. Your comment didn’t really provide any guidance or experience related to the question. Since the Homey App requires iOS 15.1 (which is supported by most older iPads), I’m mainly looking for others’ experiences running it—especially since I only need the device for this single app, so memory and storage shouldn’t be a major concern.

If you don’t have relevant input, I’d appreciate it if we could keep the thread focused so others who do have experience can share their insights. Thanks for understanding!

I have an old Samsung Tab 2 wallmounted and a Lenovo M10 on a stand in the living. The Tab 2 has a switched power for 1 hour a day.

Practically, we don’t use the wallmounted. Also because it reacts slow (To old?!?) and you have to walk up to it.

Most of the time we use Google commands, smartphone and automated scenes.

To be honest, wallmounted is more of a gimmic.
