Network expertise needed: Debian 13 + Realtek 8192SU wifi dongle

I can’t find out what’s wrong, feeling like running in circles. I miss the expert skills on this.
Knowing there’s several network guru’s on this forum, I want to ask for suggestions on how to solve a weird issue:

my pc won’t connect to one particular devices’ wifi AP, being an Xtend Hybrid Heatpump; it keeps requesting to enter the (already saved) password a few times, until it times out. Yes I am really sure the pw is correct.
Wifi security is set to WPA/WPA2/WPA3 Personal
(Yes, I know the Xtend disables it’s AP after 15 minutes idle time)

However, it connects just fine to any other network or device @ home, f.e. to an SMA inverters’ AP, and to my wifi network SSID’s.

My laptop and Android phone+tablet connect fine with the Xtend!

Please ask what additional info you need, then I’ll update this post.

  • Devices:
    PC (won’t connect)
    OS: Debian 13
    NIC: Realtek 8192SU (USB)

  • Laptop (connects fine)
    OS: Mint
    NIC: Realtek RTL8188CE (PCI)

Maybe there are too many clients (devices) connected to it? It seems like the AP isn’t responding to association. Also, is it a “setup” network? Then you can complete the setup on your phone or laptop and access the device from your PC in your main network.

Thanks, Sven.

I made sure to only (try to) connect one device at a time to it.

Not sure what you mean, it’s just a simple devices’ AP with it’s own DHCP , similar to what Homey Pro 2019 setup uses, and my inverter for instance.

Because any other device connects with it, I’m getting the idea something’s off with the dongle or the driver.
BUT, it does connect fine with the inverters’ AP. That puzzles me.

But why do you need to connect to the AP from multiple devices? If you connect from your phone or any other device that does connect to it, you can complete the setup and then access the device from your main LAN afterwards.

I don’t. I only showed the other, functioning, connections to show it works fine on other devices.

But with the very one I need it to work for, it doesn’t. That’s my hurdle.
