I’d like to automate my basement stairwell lights with a motion sensor. I tried the Nous A1Z. Unfortunately, this sensor stays ON for about 75-90 sec until it switches back to OFF. This makes it impossible to re-trigger the lights in a time less than the above delay. Can anyone recommend a motion sensor for Homey Pro that provides real time feedback on motion/presence?
I don’t know your sensor. With my motionsensor I can adjust the alarmtime in advanced settings. The minimum is 60 seconds. There are sensors with lower minimums.
I use Aqara P1 Motion Sensors and can set both the blind time and alarm recovery time as low as 1 sec, though that has an impact on battery life. I have set both to 30 secs.
It depends on what you try to achieve: do you want your lights to switch off between retriggers or to to stay on? A longer sensor delay just means the light will switch of a little later, like in:
WHEN zone is active THEN switch on light
WHEN zone is inactive for 2 minutes THEN switch off light
As zone inactive time shall be a bit more as the sensor delay.
Thank you very much for your response. Does the P1 require the Aqara Zigbee 3.0 Hub or is the Homey Pro alone sufficient? Can the programming of the delay time be done without the Aqara Zigbee 3.0 Hub as well?
No, you can connect them directly to Homey Pro using the Aqara app for Homey and configure the above mentioned settings in the devices’s settings in Homey.
I am not sure, as I don’t have an Aqara hub. I assume you would be able, as those settings are also available in Homey.
Oh this is awesome, I didn’t know it was possible to change the alarm reset time for the Aqara P1 sensor in Homey - this was also driving me nuts recently because my alarm is active for 5 mins at the moment.
I just checked (again) in the Homey mobile app and it’s not possible to change the Aqara motion sensor settings there. You can only change the device settings if you use the Homey web app on your computer.
However, I’m getting an error message when trying to save some different settings, which is pretty frustrating. It looks like this is definitely where to change the settings, but for some reason, the settings are not saving for me.
Indeed, battery powered devices (sleepy end-devices) need to be waken before Homey can communicate with them and save changes. It’s a bit of a challenge with the Aqara P1 motion sensors, as the time window for sending changes to the device is very short after pressing the button. In my experience only a few seconds.
So you need to find a way to push the button on the device (check that the blue LED indicator flashes) and immediately after press the save button in the Homey settings page.
I didn’t know about the long press on the device tile to reveal “advanced settings” on mobile. That’s a good trick.
Thanks for the tip about needing to be quick to press the save button after pressing the button on the motion sensor.
I think I got a bit excited and actually long-pressed the button on the Aqara sensor and it fell of my Zigbee network. After another long press I got it back on the network and was able to quickly and successfully make some setting changes and now everything is great.
For a long time I didn’t know that it was possible to change the length of time that the motion alarm was on for, so I’m thrilled to have finally figured out how to change it. Thanks for the help
