[Modding] Various Homey Pro (Early 2023) Modification suggestions

Hi, I replaced the module with a new CM4108032. I had no Z-wave. Tried resetting the Homey Pro, reinstalling firmware and restoring backup several times, but still no network or Z-wave. I can’t find the IP address, the fields are empty:

I connect via wifi. Homey pro connects to the network normally but the IP address is not there. New Module: CM4108032

homey verzia: 13.3.0

node ver: v24.16.0

Can you give me some advice on how to fix it?

Thank you, I’m helpless.

Did you follow the procedure as stated in the very first posts?
Did you make the backup with the https://usb.homey.app/ and restored it sucessfully?

Yes, I followed this procedure: GitHub - Ferdinand99/Homey-Pro-Early-2023-CM4-Upgrade-Guide-: Guide to upgrade the Homey Pro (Early 2023) to Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (8GB RAM / 32GB eMMC) · GitHub

I successfully managed to create a backup of the old board. And then I restored everything was completed 100%. Today I tried connecting an ethernet adapter but it still does the same thing and it doesn’t create an IP address. The fields are empty. I’ll try to create a backup again and start the whole process over again. I don’t know what to do anymore.

I also had to replace my CM4 this week. The original CM4 had ‘given up the ghost’ (the eMMC had been overwritten too many times and had become corrupted – which is why I’m still opting for the 32GB version, as it has more total read/write capacity).
I discovered that the original guide I’d written no longer worked properly and resulted in the system behaving very strangely. What did work, however, was the following.

  1. Create a cloud backup (not a local USB backup!)
  2. Replace the CM4 module
  3. Boot into recovery mode whilst holding down the reset pin
  4. Perform a factory reset (this installs the OS)
  5. Optional: connect to your PC/Mac and resize the partition. If you wish to do this, disconnect from the PC/Mac and reconnect in recovery mode to carry out this step.
  6. Let Homey boot up, connect to Wi-Fi/LAN and restore the cloud backup.
  7. Not all apps install correctly. I restarted Homey after an hour, after which I installed more apps; I ‘triggered’ a few by re-installing the app via the website. It was quickly visible in ‘Settings / Storage’. The problematic apps were ‘1kb’ in size. After installing these apps manually all settings and flowcharts are working as expected.

After that, everything was working properly and running smoothly again with the new CM4108032. Perhaps this experience will help someone. The strange network issues and red ring that I encountered during the USB restore haven’t occurred this time.

Thank you for your advice. I did a Factory reset via USB https://usb.homey.app/. Then I connected the power supply to the Homey pro. But the Homey still flashes white and then pulses red. It looks like a boot error. It can’t connect to the internet.

I’m sorry that this doesn’t sort it out. Have you already opened the ‘Honey’ again and checked that the CM4 is fully and correctly seated in the connector? Perhaps you could try reinserting it to make sure all the contacts are properly connected?

I think there won’t be a problem there. I’ve checked it about 3 times. The old board works fine. Thanks for the help

I get the feeling that your new board is defective.
Best to reinstall the old board and see if everything starts to work correctly. Than make a new USB-backup and use that one to give it another try for the new board. If that fails again, please claim a defective product to your shop.

Any idea what could cause this unecpected behaviour?
What do you see when your system behaves very strange?

I used your method and it all works pefect!

I don’t know why, but Athom seems to have made some changes to the script. When I restore from a USB backup, it appears that no more data than the ‘original’ user storage size is being restored. When I restore from a USB backup (from a resized 32gb storage module), I either get a whole host of errors or Homey doesn’t even boot up anymore and a red ring appears. When I restore from the cloud backup, only the flows, insights and settings are restored. After that, the apps are downloaded. This seems to go smoothly without any errors. To be honest, I haven’t had time yet to study the script properly. However, I thought that if it’s gone wrong for me five times in a row now, perhaps others are experiencing the same issue. I have to admit that, given the specific error messages and Z-Wave errors, I also suspect that something on his CM4 module isn’t working properly (assuming it came from a reputable shop and isn’t a ‘fake’ module)

May I ask you based on what / how you checked it ? I posted some time ago how to check the wear, so I wonder if your eMMC really died…

Haha, good question. I have to be honest and say that I find that very difficult to determine.

  1. I can’t get it to read it out in Homey.
  2. I couldn’t get this information successfully while connecting homey to a PC, Mac or another RPI.
  3. I couldn’t get the information from the CM4 with a different dock.

What happened to me was that, over a relatively short period, Homey became increasingly unstable, with Insights failing to load (after opening an insight Homey was crashing and rebooting or showing a red ring) and the interface becoming very sluggish. Now, for the third time, a factory reset worked (it took a very long time), but the ‘verify’ phase failed three times (as before). Just like the previous times, I installed a new CM4 and the factory reset was at least three times faster; the verify succeeded straight away and Homey is running as stable as a rock again. The only thing worth noting is that creating a local backup works fine, but restoring from it no longer works. Cloud restoration works fine.

Thanks for your correction. I’d become so convinced of my assumption that I presented it as a ‘fact’. (I’m still convinced that the eMMC is faulty, as I can’t write a 1GB file to it in my separate Dock and successfully read it back either.)

at the moment around 500 devices and 98 apps running.
