[Modding] Various Homey Pro (Early 2023) Modification suggestions

I also had to replace my CM4 this week. The original CM4 had ‘given up the ghost’ (the eMMC had been overwritten too many times and had become corrupted – which is why I’m still opting for the 32GB version, as it has more total read/write capacity).
I discovered that the original guide I’d written no longer worked properly and resulted in the system behaving very strangely. What did work, however, was the following.

  1. Create a cloud backup (not a local USB backup!)
  2. Replace the CM4 module
  3. Boot into recovery mode whilst holding down the reset pin
  4. Perform a factory reset (this installs the OS)
  5. Optional: connect to your PC/Mac and resize the partition. If you wish to do this, disconnect from the PC/Mac and reconnect in recovery mode to carry out this step.
  6. Let Homey boot up, connect to Wi-Fi/LAN and restore the cloud backup.
  7. Not all apps install correctly. I restarted Homey after an hour, after which I installed more apps; I ‘triggered’ a few by re-installing the app via the website. It was quickly visible in ‘Settings / Storage’. The problematic apps were ‘1kb’ in size. After installing these apps manually all settings and flowcharts are working as expected.

After that, everything was working properly and running smoothly again with the new CM4108032. Perhaps this experience will help someone. The strange network issues and red ring that I encountered during the USB restore haven’t occurred this time.
