Hi everyone,
I’d like to suggest a feature that would make energy sockets (like smart plugs or inline meters) part of the devices they’re monitoring, instead of showing up as separate tiles in the Homey device list.
Goal:
- Cleaner device overview: no clutter from separate energy sockets.
- Insightful energy tracking: energy usage still visible, but directly tied to the device it belongs to.
- Proper switching behavior: control the actual device via IR, API, or other native methods — not by cutting the power through the socket.
How could it work?
- Allow users to mark an energy socket as “part of device X.”
- In the Homey app, only device X appears in the Devices view, optionally showing live energy data.
- In the Energy tab, the socket remains visible as an individual meter for accurate tracking.
- Flows can still access the energy socket behind the scenes, but it won’t clutter the main interface.
Would love to hear if others are also interested in this and if the Homey team might consider implementing something like it!
Best regards,
Richard
