Is Homey going a bit quiet on the UI side? Am I the only one feeling this?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Homey for a while now, and lately I’ve been looking at the release notes more carefully.

I have to be honest , I’m starting to feel like not much is happening on the interface and UX side of things…

Don’t get me wrong, there are things I appreciate. Zigbee and Z-Wave improvements keep coming, the community is pumping out new apps constantly, and that’s genuinely great. But when I look at what Athom is shipping for the app and UI itself, it feels pretty thin.

The biggest UI feature I can point to recently? Hidden Devices, introduced on March 25, 2026 with the ability to hide devices from your overview without losing your Flows or settings. Useful, sure. But that’s… kind of it on the UI front. Also, this was actually something people had been asking for since at least 2023, so it took a long time to land…

Dashboards especially feel stagnant to me. Dashboards launched as a big feature a while back, with widgets for sensors, speakers, zones, and moods, but since then? I haven’t seen meaningful new widget types, layout flexibility, or visual improvements.

For a feature that was positioned as a flagship addition, it feels like it got shipped and then kind of… forgotten.

I’m not trying to be unfair. Athom is a small team, and I know they’ve been busy with hardware (the Homey Pro 2026 launched in December 2025 with doubled RAM), and they did ship the Python Apps SDK recently. But I genuinely wonder: is the UI just not a priority right now? Are they simply working on major release that will bring a lot of improvements?

Is anyone else feeling this way, or am I being too harsh? Would love to hear if I’m missing something.

But what are you missing from the UI then? If there’s nothing to add, nothing will be added either.

But they are working on a new device: the Homey Portal, references to it were found in several places including the mobile app and some websites were created for it. It’s likely a physical display screen for Dashboards. The website that contained the most information got pulled a few hours after posting, so it’s probably quite accurate.

I’m happy you find it perfect already, but for me there are both minor and bigger improvements that would make a real difference. Just to name a few :

  • Advanced Flows is still only available on the web app (no tablet, no phone support).

  • Device icons could use some love too. Simple state-based animations would go a long way (i.e a shutter icon that actually shows the blind moving, for example) Nothing crazy, just something that reflects what’s happening in real life.

  • Dashboard widgets. There are a few, and they’re decent, but I feel like there’s so much more potential there that’s just sitting untapped.

  • Energy management : dynamic tariffs are still not available for a lot of countries, and I honestly haven’t seen meaningful progress on that front in a while.

None of this is dealbreaker stuff, but it adds up. Small polish and consistency improvements matter for the daily experience, and right now it feels like that side of things isn’t getting much attention. That’s my point of view because I like the product and I think PMs need feedback like this sometimes.

Great work takes time, there are plenty of nice UI/UX projects being worked on. Just wait

Consider trying this community app (still in test):

As one of the main users, did you run into any issues lately?
If not Ill see if I can get it out of test this weekend

No not lately. But I have to say that I was on holiday and did not make any flow changes . From my personal perspective your app seems stable enough to release it to the broader community. Maybe that also enables you to get further feedback from users that have different use cases.
