Hey everyone,
I’ve been using Homey for a while now, and lately I’ve been looking at the release notes more carefully.
I have to be honest , I’m starting to feel like not much is happening on the interface and UX side of things…
Don’t get me wrong, there are things I appreciate. Zigbee and Z-Wave improvements keep coming, the community is pumping out new apps constantly, and that’s genuinely great. But when I look at what Athom is shipping for the app and UI itself, it feels pretty thin.
The biggest UI feature I can point to recently? Hidden Devices, introduced on March 25, 2026 with the ability to hide devices from your overview without losing your Flows or settings. Useful, sure. But that’s… kind of it on the UI front. Also, this was actually something people had been asking for since at least 2023, so it took a long time to land…
Dashboards especially feel stagnant to me. Dashboards launched as a big feature a while back, with widgets for sensors, speakers, zones, and moods, but since then? I haven’t seen meaningful new widget types, layout flexibility, or visual improvements.
For a feature that was positioned as a flagship addition, it feels like it got shipped and then kind of… forgotten.
I’m not trying to be unfair. Athom is a small team, and I know they’ve been busy with hardware (the Homey Pro 2026 launched in December 2025 with doubled RAM), and they did ship the Python Apps SDK recently. But I genuinely wonder: is the UI just not a priority right now? Are they simply working on major release that will bring a lot of improvements?
Is anyone else feeling this way, or am I being too harsh? Would love to hear if I’m missing something.
